INTRODUCTION:
God is a specialist in transforming small things into great abundance. Throughout the Bible, we see instances where God takes what seems insufficient and multiplies it beyond measure. He did it with the widow’s oil, the five loaves and two fishes, and even with the faith of a mustard seed.
Many times, people feel trapped by their limitations—financial struggles, dwindling resources, or lack of opportunities. However, the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7 reminds us that when God steps in, little becomes much. What she thought was too small to matter became a channel of divine provision.
This sermon will explore how God takes what we see as small, insufficient, or insignificant and turns it into supernatural abundance through faith, obedience, divine instruction, and His miraculous power.
1. GOD REQUIRES FAITH TO MULTIPLY THE LITTLE YOU HAVE
Before God multiplies anything, He looks for faith in the heart of the believer.
a) Faith is the key to unlocking divine abundance (Hebrews 11:6)
Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
b) God does not need much to do great things (Matthew 17:20)
Even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.
c) Doubt limits God’s ability to multiply (James 1:6-7)
A double-minded person receives nothing from the Lord.
d) Faith in God’s word brings supernatural provision (Luke 5:4-6)
Peter’s simple faith in Jesus’ instruction led to a great catch of fish.
e) Biblical Example: The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25-34)
Her faith in touching Jesus’ garment brought her instant healing.
2. OBEDIENCE TO DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS UNLOCKS ABUNDANCE
When God gives instructions, our response determines our outcome.
a) Obedience is the gateway to divine provision (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
Those who obey God’s commandments are blessed.
b) God often gives simple instructions for great miracles (John 2:5)
At the wedding in Cana, the servants obeyed and saw water turn into wine.
c) Disobedience hinders the flow of abundance (1 Samuel 15:22)
Saul lost his kingship because he disobeyed divine instructions.
d) Many miss their blessings because they hesitate to act (Genesis 12:1-4)
Abraham received great blessings because he obeyed promptly.
e) Biblical Example: The Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:10-16)
She obeyed Elijah and saw her last meal multiplied.
3. GOD MULTIPLIES WHAT YOU HAVE, NOT WHAT YOU WISH FOR
God works with what is in your hands, no matter how little it seems.
a) God always starts with what you already have (Exodus 4:2-3)
Moses’ rod became an instrument of miracles.
b) No resource is too small for God to use (John 6:9-13)
Five loaves and two fish fed over 5,000 people.
c) Your little becomes much when placed in God’s hands (Psalm 23:1)
The Lord is our Shepherd; we shall not lack.
d) God is not limited by what you lack (2 Corinthians 9:8)
His grace supplies all that we need.
e) Biblical Example: Elisha and the Widow’s Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7)
Her small jar of oil was multiplied when she obeyed the prophet’s word.
4. GOD’S SUPPLY IS LIMITLESS WHEN YOU MAKE ROOM FOR IT
Your expectation and capacity determine the extent of God’s provision.
a) God’s blessings flow according to your preparation (2 Kings 4:3-6)
The oil only stopped flowing when there were no more empty vessels.
b) Expecting little limits what you receive (Psalm 81:10)
God says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
c) God’s storehouse never runs dry (Malachi 3:10)
He pours out a blessing so great there is not enough room to receive it.
d) Your willingness to receive determines how much you get (Matthew 9:29)
“According to your faith, let it be done unto you.”
e) Biblical Example: The Disciples and the Miraculous Catch of Fish (Luke 5:4-7)
They caught so many fish that their nets began to break.
5. GOD’S ABUNDANCE BRINGS GLORY AND TESTIMONIES
God does not bless just for survival but for His glory and the blessing of others.
a) God’s blessings always exceed expectations (Ephesians 3:20)
He does exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think.
b) When God blesses, there is no sorrow added (Proverbs 10:22)
The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow.
c) God’s provision positions you to bless others (2 Corinthians 9:8)
He blesses us so we can be a blessing.
