Today, we turn our hearts and minds to a powerful passage from the book of Psalms, a book that has comforted and guided countless souls throughout the ages. Psalms 68:2 says,
"As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God."
This verse, though brief, is rich with profound truths that can anchor our faith, fortify our hearts, and illuminate our path. It speaks of protection, the power of God's presence, and the pursuit of deliverance. It reminds us that our God is not a passive observer but an active defender, a fierce protector, a relentless pursuer.
When we think about protection, we often imagine a physical shield or barrier that keeps harm at bay. But in the spiritual realm, protection is not just about having a barrier; it's about positioning ourselves in the right place. It's about aligning ourselves with God's will, His Word, and His ways.
Imagine a tree planted by the river: It doesn't worry about the scorching heat or the winter frost. Why? Because it's positioned in a place where it can continually draw nourishment. Its roots go deep into the soil, and it's always in a position to receive life-giving water. That's the kind of spiritual positioning we need.
Look at our lives: Are we positioned in a place where we can draw spiritual nourishment? Are we rooted in God's Word? Are we aligned with His will? Are we walking in His ways? These are the questions we need to ask ourselves. The Psalmist paints a vivid picture of God's power over the wicked. He likens them to smoke that is driven away and wax that melts before the fire. This is a powerful reminder of God's protective power. But it's not just about God's power; it's also about our position.
When we position ourselves in God's presence, we are protected: Just as smoke cannot stand in the presence of a strong wind, and just as wax cannot stand in the presence of fire, so too, the wicked cannot stand in the presence of God. But for us to experience this protection, we need to be in God's presence. Being in God's presence is not just about attending church services or participating in religious activities. It's about cultivating a personal relationship with God. It's about spending time in prayer and meditation. It's about reading and meditating on God's Word. It's about living a life that is pleasing to God.
How can we position ourselves in God's presence?: It starts with a decision. A decision to seek God. A decision to prioritize our relationship with Him. A decision to live according to His Word. Once we make that decision, we need to take action. We need to set aside time for prayer and Bible study. We need to surround ourselves with godly influences. We need to turn away from sin and pursue righteousness.
As we do these things: We will find ourselves in a position of protection. We will experience the truth of Psalms 68:2 in our lives. We will see the wicked driven away and perish at the presence of God. But remember, positioning for protection is not a one-off thing. It's a daily commitment. It's a continuous process. It's a lifelong journey.
