Whats Going on in Hell?

This is not a parable.

19: There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

There was or there was not – Which?

* If there was not, then Christ told a lie, because he said that there was.

Heb:6:18: it was impossible for God to lie.

This story is true because it actually happened.

Jesus never used lies to illustrate truths.

Names are never introduced in any of Jesus parables,

but in this story names such as Lazarus, Abraham and Moses are introduced. Therefor this passage of scripture clearly depicts a true picture of what’s going on in Hell.

I. A little about their lives.

19: There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

* A man with a Good Life.

20: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21: And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

* A man in need, want and hunger.

* A man in poor health.

* God sends medical aid.

Mal 4:2 Healing in his wings;

II. A little of their death.

22: And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

* Lazarus’s escort / burial

* Rich man’s no escort / burial

III. What’s going on in Hell

23: And in hell he lift up his eyes,

* Doing Christian things and still going to Hell.

* Church work

* Sunday School

* Bible Study

* Church Service

23: And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

What’s going on in Hell?

Torments: Hell is nothing but torment in one way or another.

* There are several Sources of torment in hell.

The first is having remorse after seeing the righteous clothed in glory with all the bliss of God.

24: And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

have mercy on me:

* There are cries for mercy in Hell.

* There is no mercy in Hell

*You have a body in Hell

* Seeth, tip of his finger, my tongue, he lift up his eyes

* There is Fire and brimstone in Hell, and The holy Angels and Jesus will watch you burn.

Rev 14: 9-10 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

10: The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

25: But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

What’s going on in Hell?

Remember:

* There is remembrance in Hell.

Remember how you treated some one.

Remember how many times you broke your promise to the Lord.

Remember all the lies you told and the underhanded things you did in your life.

Remember all the times you failed to truly repent.

Remember all the scriptures, laws and commandments of the Lord you broke.

Remember all the opportunities you had to give your life to Christ, but failed to do so.

There is remembrance in Hell.

26: And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

* There is no crossing over.

* There is no second chance.

27: Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

What’s going on in Hell?

* There is Praying going on in Hell.

*Prayer in Hell will not help.

* Praying to the wrong person

(these verses are not for those in hell)

1Thes:5:17: Pray without ceasing.

Ps: 30:5: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

28: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
