? R U Series Pt 2
“WHAT R U?”
2 Corinthians 5:17 GWT
Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence.
You ever see people during the holiday seasons where people dress up in costumes for dramas or parties? They get asked the question multiple times, “What R U” or what are you supposed to be?
I think in our everyday real life we need to stop & ask that question of ourselves; What am I & what am I supposed to be?
When you make a visit down to our local Josettes Costume shop, soon as you walk in the door you begin seeing mask & costumes of every kind.
They are there to help anyone dress up to be any character they want to be!
How many of us know that when you are standing in a crowd of people many are wearing a mask or maybe even a complete costume because they haven’t figured out “What they are really supposed to be!”
It is so vitally important that as a person understands their need of Jesus & accepts Him as Savior that they begin getting an understanding of “What they have become in Jesus.”
I. We have become the Redeemed…
Isaiah 63:8-9 NLT He said, “They are my very own people. Surely they will not betray me again.” And he became their Savior. In all their suffering he also suffered, and he personally rescued them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years.
We have become “The Redeemed of the Lord!” We are His own; He personally paid the price & rescued us…
Revelation 14:3 GNT Of the whole human race they are the only ones who have been redeemed.
Do you understand “What you are or have become in Christ?”
Psalm 107:2 NLT Has the LORD redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.
Just getting this part down in me will cause me to want to let everyone know who I am in relationship with!!!
II. The Righteousness of God…
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
In accepting “What we are” we need to understand how we became that…
• Did we do anything to become the righteousness of God according to that verse?
• So how do we become it? By accepting the truth of God’s Word & acting it out in our life.
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV …if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
What a person truly is will come from their heart. A life walking in right standing with God will happen as a person sees themselves as …a new creation.
What is righteousness?
Philippians 3:8-9 ESV Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
As we can see, the righteousness of God is learning that HE is our only true source & that we can’t rely on our self to be what we are supposed to be.
Paul saw all of his great accomplishments, his successes, & wisdom as worthless unless they somehow fit into God’s plan & purpose for his life.
Romans 14:16-18 GNT Do not let what you regard as good get a bad name. For God's Kingdom is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of the righteousness, peace, and joy which the Holy Spirit gives. And when you serve Christ in this way, you please God and are approved by others.
III. Overcomer, More than a Conquorer…
What are you?
• Redeemed
• Righteous
And now, Overcomer & More than a Conquorer…
1 John 4:4 ESV Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 5:4 ESV For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith.
Overcomer…. Are you getting the identity here, the world has NO power of control over those who identify themselves in Jesus.
