What Is The Greatest Act Of Love?

Summary: Let us consider what demonstrates love to others the best? Kiss? Hold hands? How about considering LISTENING SKILLS?
THE GREATEST ACT OF LOVE…
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
I ask the question what is the greatest act of love?
May say “THE KISS” or MAYBE HOLDING HANDS?
THE KISS CAN BE DECEIVING.
The kiss can be deceiving. The kiss could hid motives and could lead to lust and hurt.
Luke 22:47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. 48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
The kiss is 23 times in the Bible.
Holding hands is listed 12 time.
FOR A TOTAL OF 35 TIMES…
TO LISTEN IS 353 TIMES IN THE BIBLE.
HEAR IS 382 TIMES IN THE BIBLE.
LISTENING IS 19 TIMES…
FOR A TOTAL OF 754 TIMES…
TO LISTEN OR HEAR IS SPOKEN 33 TIMES MORE THAN THE KISS…
Could this tell us something?
Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
CLOSED EYES? PLUGGED EARS…
Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
JESUS TRIES TO TELL AND WARN PEOPLE --- THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN
Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
MANY TIMES AS WE FOLLOW CHRIST WE ARE DEFICIENT IN LISTEN SKILLS…
OFTEN MUCH OF OUR SPIRITUAL PROGRESS IS HINDERED BECAUSE WE REFUSE TO LISTEN…
Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Mark 7:16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Luke 8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Luke 14:35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
HOW SAD ARE STOPPED UP EARS? SLEEP ON JESUS TELLS THEM THE 3RD TIME.
Romans 11:8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
Why did Jesus’ death bring fear, disappointment, hope gone, not sure and indecision? NO ONE WAS LISTENING, JESUS TOLD THEM…
1. Seems we love to listen with our minds already made up…
2. Presumption and assumption… Man looking for prove lady’s pants, found breeches for the priest?
3. To listen you have to shut your mouth.
4. Selective hearing, hear what you want to hear. Can you hear suicide is good? Selective hearing says: Whatsoever you do, do with all your might. Judas hung himself. Go and do thou likewise?
5. Don’t exaggerate or over interpret.
6. Listen actively. (Not passively?) EUTYCHUS sitting in the window while Paul preached, he went to sleep.
CONCLUSION: TAKE A HINT FROM THE CREATION: TWO EARS, ONE MOUTH.
James 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
How terrible life would be if we had two mouths and one ear?
