Summary: FOCAL POINT: GOD HATES SIN!
WHAT GOD HATES
PART 1 OF A TWO PART SERIES ON 1 & 2 KINGS
KEY VERSE: 2 KINGS 17: 7-8
FOCAL POINT: GOD HATES SIN!
INTRODUCTION:
SEE PART 1 OF THIS TWO PART SERIES ON 1ST AND 2ND KINGS.
SECOND KINGS DESCRIBES THE DOWNFALL OF BOTH THE NORTHERN KINGDOM (ISRAEL) AND THE SOUTHERN KINGDOM (JUDAH). SEVERAL PROPHETS CONTINUED TO WARN BOTH KINGDOMS OF THE IMPENDING, COMING JUDGMENT IF THEY REFUSED TO REPENT OF THEIR SINS. BOTH KINGDOMS REFUSED THE WARNINGS! THE NORTHERN KINGDOM (ISRAEL) WAS DESTROYED BY THE ASSYRIANS. THE SOUTHERN KINGDOM (JUDAH) WAS DESTROYED BY THE BABYLONIANS.
GOD’S TRUE PROPHETS, ELIJAH AND ELISHA EMERGE IN 2 KINGS.
READ 2 KINGS 17: 7-8
THE ENTIRE CHAPTER OF 2 KINGS 17 DETAILS THE DEPTHS OF DEPRAVITY ISRAEL (NORTHERN KINGDOM) HAD COME TO. IT WAS NOT PRETTY AND AN ABSOLUTE AFFRONT TO OUR HOLY GOD (READ 2 KINGS 17: 22-23).
THREE THEMES EMERGE IN 2 KINGS:
#1: THE LORD WILL JUDGE DISOBEDIENCE.
#2 THE WORD OF A TRUE PROPHETS ALWAYS COMES TO FRUITION.
#3 THE LORD IS ALWAYS FAITHFUL. ALTHOUGH HE HATES SIN, HE DID NOT BRING
KING DAVID’S HOUSE TO A COMPLETE END. MESSIAH CAME OUT OF DAVID’S
LINEAGE.
ISRAEL HAD THE LAW YET REFUSED THE SAME. THEY WOULD BE HARD PRESSED IN A CONVENTIONAL COURT OF LAW TO PROVE THEIR INNOCENCE. IN FACT, THEY COULD NOT.
THE CAUSES OF ISRAEL’S SINS READ LIKE A HORROR BOOK. LINE AFTER LINE, ISSUE AFTER ISSUE, SIN AFTER SIN JUMP OFF THE PAGES. THE READ LIKE THE PAGES OUT OF THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT. THEY FORMED ALLIANCES OUTSIDE THE COUNSEL OF GOD. IMMORALITY AND IDOLATRY WAS TOLERATED. STUDY OUT GOOD KINGS VERSES BAD KINGS IN BOTH FIRST AND SECOND KINGS AND YOU SOON SEE THE BIG PICTURE.
THEIR “GREAT SIN“, IDOLATRY, CAN BE TRACED TO JEROBOAM 1, CONTINUAL PROPENSITY TOWARD SIN AND IDOLATRY (REF: 2 KINGS 2: 19-23).
SCRIPTURES ON SIN:
PROVERBS 5: 22 “HIS OWN INIQUITIES WILL CAPTURE THE WICKED AND HE WILL BE HELD WITH THE CORDS OF HIS SIN.”
JOHN 8:34 “TRULY, TRULY, I SAY TO YOU, EVERYONE WHO COMMITS SIN IS THE SLAVE OF SIN.
TO LIVE FOR SELF BRINGS SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. SOMETIMES FOLLOWING GOD’S PRECEPTS CAN BE DIFFICULT. THE CHOICE IS CLEAR, YOU CAN LIVE FOR GOD OR DIE FOR YOURSELF. YOUR CHOICE IS VERY CLEAR!
APPLICATION: GOT HATES SIN! DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES FOR YOUR UNREPENTANT SINS?
