Summary: Boast in the Cross

What Are You Boasting About?

Galatians 6:14

“But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Boasting means speaking proudly about something. Many people boast about money, success, beauty, or power. But Paul says, “I will boast only in the Cross.”

1. I Will Boast in the Cross – Galatians 6:14

The Cross was a place of shame in those days. But for us, it is the place of salvation. Jesus died for our sins. Because of the Cross, we are forgiven. So our pride is not in ourselves — it is in what Jesus has done.

2. My Soul Will Boast in the Lord – Psalm 34:2

“My soul will boast in the Lord.”

This means we praise God for who He is. We do not boast about our strength, but about His strength. We do not boast about our wisdom, but about His wisdom.

3. Boast About Salvation – Ephesians 2:8–9

Salvation is a gift from God. It is not because of our good works. No one can say, “I saved myself.” We are saved by grace. So all glory belongs to God.

Bad Boasting – Titanic Illustration

When the Titanic was built, people said, “Even God cannot sink this ship.” They were proud of their human skill and power. But on its first journey, the ship hit an iceberg and sank. Many lives were lost.

This teaches us something important:

When we boast in ourselves, we fall.

When we trust only in human strength, we fail.

So let us not boast in money, success, or power.

Let us boast in the Cross.

Let us boast in the Lord.

Let us boast in the salvation He has given us.

Because everything else will pass away —

but what Christ has done will last forever.

Amen.
