WHAT A LOST MAN DOESN’T HAVE
Text-Ephesians 2:12
Introduction-
The idea for this sermon came from a sermon on
SermonCentral.com by Rev. Howard Mc’Glawery. I
want to express appreciation to him and Sermon-
Central for providing this catalyst for the follow-
ing sermon, which I developed with my own ideas
and sermon points.
This morning I would like for us to concentrate our
thoughts on what a lost man doesn’t have. I believe
that if we could show lost sinners that they are
missing something by not becoming a Christian, then
they would not be far from entering the Kingdom of
God. Too often, people who are unconverted think
that they are as good as so and so at the church,
and that they don’t need what we as Christians have
to offer. They must see their need of Christ, or
they will never call upon Him for salvation.
At a men’s meeting in Lincoln Baptist Association,
where I am serving as pastor, the keynote speaker
shared that he had gone on several mission trips
with men. He gave an illustaration of a doctor
who told them of a woman who had cancer. They
prayed for her, and she was healed. When he checked
her over, there was no cancer at all! The doctor
replied to them-"You guys have something that I
don’t have! I know that this lady had cancer, and
I know that she has been healed. Whatever it is
that you have, I want it!" You see, he realized
that there had to be something to prayer and the
faith of these Christians, so he was led to faith.
What is it that a saved person has that a lost person
does not have? Let’s consider some possessions and
privilages that believers alone have.
I. First, A LOST PERSON DOES NOT HAVE A VITAL,
LIVING RELATIONSHIP(FELLOWSHIP) WITH THE LORD
JESUS CHRIST.
1st John 1:3 says-"That which we have seen and
heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have
fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is
with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."
1st John 1:7-"But if we walk in the light, as he
is in the light, we have fellowship one with anoth-
er, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth
us from all sin."
John 15:5-6,"I am the vine, ye are the branches,
He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same
bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can
do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast
forth as a branch, and is withered, and men gather
them and cast them into the fire, and they are
burned."
John 10:14-"I am the Good Sheperd, and know my
sheep, and am known of mine."
Charles Spurgeon, the great preacher of years ago,
described the relationship of Christians to Christ
as a living, loving, lasting union. He was right.
So, the saved person has something that the lost
person doesn’t have-a vital, living, relationship
and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
II.Secondly, THE LOST PERSON DOES NOT HAVE FORGIVE-
NESS OF HIS SINS.
Ephesians 1:7-"In whom we have redemption through
his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to
the riches of his grace." (the cleansing of His
blood)
1st John 3:5-"And ye know that he was manifested
to take away our sins; and in him is no sin."
1st John 2:12-"I write unto you, little children,
because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s
sake." Notice that now! It was not for your
goodness, or your church membership, or your
morality, or your baptism, or your good works.
It was for His Name’s sake. It was for His glory.
III.Thirdly, A LOST PERSON DOES NOT HAVE PEACE WITH
GOD, OR THE COMFORT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Romans 5:1-"Therefore being justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Isaiah 48:22-"There is no peace, saith the Lord,
unto the wicked."
John 14:27-"Peace I leave with you, my peace I
give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I
unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither
let it be afraid."
John 14:26-"But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, which the Father will send in my name, he
shall teach you all things..."
1st John 4:13-"Hereby we know that we dwell in him,
and he in us, because he hath given us of his
Spirit."
IV.Fourthly, THE LOST PERSON DOES NOT HAVE EVERLASTING
LIFE. HE DOES NOT HAVE A HOME IN HEAVEN.
John 3:36-"He that believeth on the Son hath
everlasting life; and he that believeth not the
Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God
abideth on him."
1st John 2:25-"And this is the promise that he
hath promised us, even eternal life."
1st Peter 1:4-"To an inheritance, incorruptible,
