Message Point: Our call is to follow and obey Jesus, no matter the circumstances.

Focus Passage: 2 Samuel 15:19-23

Supplemental Passage: For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. (Romans 14:7-8 NASB)

Introduction: "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20 NASB)

I. Allegiance

a. Ittai pledged his allegiance to David with no history to recall.

b. Today, people aren’t very loyal to many things, even with a long history.

c. We can/should be loyal to God, for His mercy has followed us our entire lives.

II. Benefits

a. Ittai pledged his allegiance to David with no promise of benefits.

b. Today, people aren’t very loyal to things, even if they get a benefit from it.

c. We can/should be loyal to God NOT JUST BECAUSE of the benefits, but because of Who God is!

i. 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (Isaiah 41:10 NASB)

III. Condition

a. Ittai pleaded his allegiance to Davis with no strings attached.

b. Today, people aren’t very loyal to things, and if they are, they put lots of conditions on it.

c. We can/should be loyal to God for His love for us is unconditional.

Invitation: We should be willing to follow God wherever He takes us, yet He promises us eternal life.
