Walking With Jesus But Following Satan (Living A Double Life)
Contributed by Dr. Odell Belger on Sep 12, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: When we think of the betrayals of Christ, we normally think of Judas.
I have heard people say when I get to heaven I want to see Peter, Paul or Samson…
But you will never hear anyone say when I get to heaven I want to see JUDAS Iscariot….why? Because he is not there.
Judas is referred to by the Word of God as “The SON OF PERDITION”.
Only two people are referred to in the scriptures as “SON OF PERDITION”.
(1)One is Judas…
John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
(2) The antichrist
In 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, THE SON OF PERDICTION.
Since Judas and the antichrist are referred to as the SON OF PERDITION some believed that when Christ came to die for our sins that Judas the SON OF PERDITION will be REINCARNATED ON THE EARTH as the anti-christ.
Illus: The great scholar W. Arthur Pink states this. “As we have seen, in John 17:12 Christ termed Judas "the Son of Perdition," and 2 Thess.2:3 we find that the Antichrist is similarly designated -- "That Man of Sin is revealed, the Son of Perdition."
These are the only two places in the entire Bible where his name occurs, and the fact that Judas was termed by Christ not a "son of perdition," but "the Son of Perdition," and the fact that the Man of Sin is so named prove that they are one and the same person. What other conclusion can a simple and unprejudiced reader of the Bible come to?”
The implication is that such a person in an unredeemable state,
The Bible tells us as one of the twelve the Lord knew who he was…A devil.
John 6:70-71 Jesus answered them, have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
Also, the Bible tells us why he was here on earth…
“…That the scripture might be fulfilled.”
The fact that the phrase is used again to describe the Antichrist shows us that forgiveness was not planned for Judas. He was indeed “doomed to destruction.
So Judas will not be in heaven based on the scriptures
It is hard to believe that someone can be one of His twelve disciples and he is not in heaven.
Illus: But also according to the Word of God it is going to be hard to believe that some so called preachers, Sunday school teachers, Deacons and church members one day will not be there also.
But normally when we think of betrayal we think of JUDAS. He goes down in the history books as committing the biggest betrayal ever been committed.
The fact is, he is not the only one who betrayed Christ.
1) However when He was being crucified, his disciples betrayed Him when they went and hid behind closed doors in fear for their lives.
2) Peter betrayed Him when he stood by a fireside and said he didn’t know the Lord in fear for his life.
3) We must examine our own life because we have betrayed Him many times when we kept quiet, in fear of not wanting to be identified with Him.
The Lord certainly knows the hurt that comes from being betrayed.
• In His last week on earth, Jesus went from being PRAISED to being BETRAYED!
• During the last week of His life, He entered Jerusalem as a hero.
• His disciples were convinced they are on the winning team. It looks like they cannot lose by following Him and they wanted to hang on to his coat-tails.
• The people were shouting and praising Jesus. They were all talking about the great miracles He had performed.
• They were pumped and excited just like the fans at a football game.
But their star player started doing things FANS didn’t like…
• And the crowd turned on the team and the hero.
• The shouts go from cheers to boo’s.
We call these fans fickle, not true supporters of the team.
Illus: The University of South Carolina has many thousands of fans. But some of them are known to be fickle football fans.
• When they are playing in William Brice Football stadium and they are winning, it is packed with screaming fans.
• But when they start to lose, these so-called fans are heading for the parking lot to get in their cars and go home before the game is over.
