Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Good morning, Church! Today, our Scripture speaks to the heart of what it means to be a follower of Christ – living in the freedom of the New Covenant, pursuing the enemy that seeks to destroy us, and walking in true freedom. As we explore this passage, let us keep in mind the words of C.S. Lewis: "The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us."
New Covenant freedom is rooted in the understanding that through Jesus Christ, we have been set free from the bondage of sin and death, and we now live under a new covenant – one that is based on grace, love, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
This new covenant is a radical departure from the old covenant, which was based on the Law and the sacrificial system. Under the old covenant, the people of Israel were constantly reminded of their sinfulness and their need for atonement. However, the new covenant brings us into a relationship with God that is no longer based on our ability to keep the Law but on the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
We are no longer slaves to sin: In Romans 6:6, the Apostle Paul writes, "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin." This means that through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we have been set free from the power of sin in our lives.
We are no longer bound by the chains of our past mistakes, our failures, or our shortcomings. Instead, we are free to live a life that is pleasing to God, empowered by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
The truth is there is an enemy who seeks to destroy us and hinder our walk with the Lord ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
