LIFE MATTERS

Part 1

Because Life Matters we will be looking at just that – various Life Matters or issues that affect our daily life as believers. These are practical biblical issues of every day living. Taking the spiritual principles and seeing them worked out daily.

We’ll look at Walking. Breathing. Eating & Resting. These 4 things are quite basic issues in life. As we identify them in our natural life so they are evident in our spiritual life. Today we look at:

Walking.

Gen 13:14-16

‘The Lord said to Abram……"Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are -- northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

It’s important to look from where we are. Not from where another is – that can become envy or covetousness! God tells Abram that He would give him all the land in all directions.

So Abram looks around – turning in all points of the compass. He sees the promises of God. May be he begins to imagine the land swarming with people – all his offspring. Remember he has no child at this point. What he was about to do would be pure faith.

But it was no good just standing there looking at his promise! God tells him to act on it.

Gen 13:17

Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you."

Walking spiritually speaking means living as if the promise was present not just future. Looking may be a trust in the future promises but walking is living as though they were there already.

This is the walk of faith. Gen 12:4

Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran

Gen 12:7

Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land."

God continues to remind Abram of the covenant and promise.

Now with Lot gone to the green land of the plains Abram is reminded once more.

So Abram begins to walk through the land ( It’s mine. This is my land. It will be the land of my children though I have none.) That’s walking spiritually.

After Abram’s been walking around a while God speaks to him again.

Gen 17:1

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me.

Twenty four years after being called out of Haran and being encouraged to walk through the land of promise – God says to Abram – ‘I am Almighty God, walk before Me.

Abram had done a lot of walking. Now he was called to ‘Walk before God’. The natural walking was now to be a spiritual walk – a lifestyle of commitment and devotion to God – in full view of the eyes of the Lord.

The ‘Walk before Me’ means ‘Grow up before my face’. Here is the Father heart of God towards Abram – the same heart He has for you. Walk in faith, believe I have a plan for your life, take the steps that are in step with My will – and live your life and grow up before My eyes.

The secret of a successful life is to be sure to walk in God’s full view. The truth is – ‘If it can’t be done in the open then it shouldn’t be done at all! Often life damaging habits and practices are done secretively or under the cover of darkness. All of God’s ways are done in the light.

Walking then is indeed trusting and remaining transparent with God.

1 John 1:5-7

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all .If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Walking means how I conduct myself. My decisions. My reasoning. My motives and my life style. How can I walk better?

Isa. 30:21

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,

"This is the way, walk in it,".
