Text: Isaiah 2:1-5

Theme: “Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.” (Isaiah 2:5).

Greetings: The Lord is good and his love endures forever! Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! By the grace of God, we have entered the second month of this year 2023, and into another season of Lent. In this month too, let us continue to think from the perspective of Light.

Introduction:

(Isaiah 2:1-5):

Prophet Isaiah, a man of royal lineage, and a highly esteemed prophet of God had a born-again experience through a personal encounter with the vision of God and has very authentically called the house of Jacob to Walk in the light of the Lord. He did not command but called for a sojourner and enjoy fellowship with him in the walk, talk, and worship.

He already invited them to go up to the mountain of the Lord to worship the only Almighty God, Yahweh the LORD one who was is and will be. The unchanging light, the undiminishing light. Walking in the Light of the Lord is a unique experience of following the light of the word of God on the daily basis with the demands of the circumstances. The prophet takes the leadership to lead people to walk according to the grace of the Lord.

Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans, and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather (Psalm 1:1)

1. Deuteronomy 5:33 - Walk Entirely

“You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land which you shall possess.” ‘You shall walk entirely in the way which the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and that it may be well for you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.’(NASB).

In short form: “Live happily, Live Well, and Live long”

2. Micah 6:8 - “Walk Humbly”

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, and what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.”

3. Romans 13:13 - “Walk Properly”

“Let us live [walk] in a right way [properly; decently], like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get drunk. There should be no sexual sins of any kind [sexual immorality or debauchery/sensuality], no fighting [strife; quarrels] or jealousy.”

‘But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God.’ (The Message). “…Do not fall into patterns of dark living: wild partying, drunkenness, sexual depravity, decadent gratification, quarreling, and jealousy.” (VOICE).
