Isaiah 40:27-31 Waiting On God
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
I. THE PEOPLE—"They that wait." Implies:-
A. Dedication—Psalm 55:17 - Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
B. Determination—Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,
they were all with one accord in one place. 120 people waited for 10 days.
C. Devotion—Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. - allow God to speak to you.
II. THE PERSON—"Upon the Lord."
A. Our Saviour—speaks of DIVINITY. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords!
B. Our Lord—speaks of DISCIPLINE.
C. Our Master—speaks of DEDICATION. When God speaks, we obey Him fully.
D. Our King—speaks of DISCIPLESHIP. John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
III. THE POWER—"Shall renew their strength."
A. Physical strength—Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
B. Personal strength—Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
C. Powerful strength—
INWARD STRENGTH: shall renew their strength
UPWARD STRENGTH: they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
OUTWARD STRENGTH: they shall run, and not be weary;
ONWARD STRENGTH: and they shall walk, not faint
IV. THE PROMISE
A. The Power— they shall mount up with wings as eagles; Eagle kept in hen run.
B. The Persistence— they shall run, and not be weary;
C. The Promise— and they shall walk, and not faint.
Gen 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
