1 John 5:4-5

4. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

I. God’s Presence in the Storm

Scripture: Acts 27:23-24 (KJV) – “For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.”

A. Paul was caught in a dreadful storm, yet God sent His angel to assure him of protection and purpose.

B. “Fear not” – These words were God’s reminder that He was in control, even while the ship was battered.

C. God’s promise of “no loss of life” gave Paul peace to stand confidently amid the chaos.

Takeaway: No storm in your life is too great for God. When you feel overwhelmed, trust in His presence. He can bring peace to even the most violent winds.

II. God’s Protection Against Unexpected Attacks

Scripture: Acts 28:3-5 (KJV) – “And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand… And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.”

A. After surviving the shipwreck, Paul faced another unexpected attack — a venomous viper.

B. The people expected him to perish, but God miraculously protected him. Paul “shook off the beast” into the fire and continued unharmed.

C. The attack didn’t stop God’s plan for Paul to minister to the islanders.

Takeaway: Even when life’s challenges seem relentless, God’s protection surrounds you. Shake off worry, fear, and doubt into the fire of God’s care. The attacks you face will not define your future or stop God’s plan.

III. God’s Provision and Purpose

Scripture: Acts 28:7-11 (KJV) – “... Publius received us, and lodged us three days courteously... his father lay sick... to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him... And when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.”

A. God turned the shipwrecked group’s misfortune into a revival. Paul ministered healing to the chief man of the island and many others.

B. The islanders’ hearts were prepared to receive the gospel because of Paul’s steadfast faith and God’s miraculous power.

C. After their time on the island, provisions were given, and ships awaited to continue the mission to Rome.

Takeaway: What might look like a “setback” is often a setup for God’s purpose. He will provide what you need, whether it’s healing, resources, or opportunities to fulfill His calling on your life.

IV. Final Encouragement

A. Life’s storms can leave us feeling shipwrecked, bitten, or stuck — but God’s promises never fail.

B. Whatever storm you may be facing, remember these truths:

1. God is with you and speaks peace in the storm.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." - Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

2. God protects you from harm, even when attacks arise.

"But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one." - 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)

3. In times of uncertainty and struggle, it is comforting to know that God will provide what is needed to carry you forward.

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

Challenge: Leave today encouraged that what happened to Paul applies to us.

• Be grounded in faith,

• Shake off the attacks, and

• Trust God's hand guiding your journey.
