Summary: Paul understood he could not accomplish the task before him without total submission unto God. God’s gifts are for the body and we need His help. I Cor.12:31 tells us to earnestly covet them!

Ushering in His Excellence pt.2 Text: I Corinthians 2:1-5

Paul could have spoken with his great oratorical skills and drawn some attention to himself; he sure had the resume’ to do it. But he had determined that there was One in whom he served that had the ability to give the listeners everything they needed! Paul understood that his own cleverness brought him as far as the Damascus road, but then Jesus took over, and brought salvation and deliverance! Paul understood his limitations; he knew with his new calling he had to submit daily unto God!

I. So what should God expect from His called ones? Acts 6:1-8 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. 2 Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. 3 Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; 4 but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, 6 whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them. 7 Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.

A. Some of the qualities for leadership in this passage of Scripture include: 1. Being of a good reputation or of an honest report! (Men of integrity) 2. Being full of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:4 (They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues.) 3. Being full of wisdom. (Practical wisdom and Spiritual wisdom form above.) 4. Being full of faith and power!

B. The members of the body of Christ (Us) are to always be totally submitted unto Him because He always has the master plan, and the agenda for His church! We are to always remember that this is all about Him! Psalm 8:1-2 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

C. God has taken the weakness, and the inabilities of men, so He can receive all the glory!

D. I Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. [Listen, we were created to help each other]!

E. Please remember, we are God’s arms, feet, eyes and hands; He is depending on us to have an excellent Spirit!

F. To Usher in His Excellence: 1. You must have a single eye! Matthew 6: 22 The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.

G. To Walk with a single eye is to walk with your body, soul and Spirit filled to overflow with the life of God. We can overflow with the life of God as we daily submit ourselves unto God’s word!

H. 2. You must work as unto the Lord! Colossians 3: 17,23 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 23. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,

I. Whatever your gift; you are to do it unto the Lord! Remember, in eternity we will be judged by the talents God has given us. ( Did we sit on them, or did we use them?)

J. 3. You must be filled with God’s word! Proverbs 4: 20-22 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

K. In these verses we can see that the word of God is our life and our health. We can not develop to a point of excellence in our gift without God’s life and health. This means daily feeding on the word of God!
