Introduction

Do you know that there is power in the Word of God? When we speak what it says and live it out, we will see results and miracles happening. In this sermon, we will explore the story of the Centurion and learn the importance of speaking the Word.

Scripture Passage

Matthew 8:5-13 (NIV)

5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” 7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” 8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

Body

The Centurion, a Roman captain in charge of a hundred soldiers, approached Jesus with a strong request for help. He acknowledged Jesus as Lord and explained that his servant was paralyzed and suffering greatly. Jesus responded by offering to go and heal the servant.

However, the Centurion, recognizing his own unworthiness, humbly requested that Jesus simply speak the word and his servant would be healed. He understood the power and authority that Jesus possessed. Just as the Centurion commanded his soldiers and they obeyed, he believed that Jesus could command healing and it would happen.

Jesus was amazed at the Centurion's faith, declaring it to be greater than any he had seen in Israel. He praised the Centurion's understanding that the Word of God held power and authority. Jesus then prophesied that many would come from all directions to join the kingdom of heaven, while those who rejected Him would be cast out.

In response to the Centurion's faith, Jesus granted his request and declared that it would be done as he believed. Instantly, the servant was healed.

Conclusion

The story of the Centurion teaches us the importance of speaking the Word of God. The Word is alive and powerful, able to bring about miracles and healing in our lives. Just as the Centurion believed in the authority of Jesus' words, we too should have faith in the power of God's Word.

Let us learn from this example and speak the Word in our own lives. When we speak what God says, we release something in the spiritual realm. Our faith is increased, and we open ourselves up to the possibility of experiencing God's miracles and blessings.

Remember, Jesus is the Word made flesh, and through Him, all things are possible. So, let us confidently speak the Word, live it out, and watch as God works wonders in our lives.

Closing

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. As we speak the Word, miracles will take place. We have a sure word of prophecy, enduring forever. Just as Peter and John spoke the Word and saw a lame man walk, we too can speak the Word and witness God's power at work.

Believe in the Word, for Jesus is the Word made flesh. He loves us and gave His life for us. With God, all things are possible. So, let us speak the Word, live it out, and experience the miracles and blessings that come from our faith in Him.
