Grace is the unique feature of Christianity, but it is used in different ways in the New Testament: Saving grace; Sustaining grace; and Sanctifying grace. All three are crucial to comprehend.
Welcome to today's sermon on the topic of grace. Today, we will explore the different aspects of grace as described in the New Testament.
Grace is a central theme in Christianity, and it is important for us to understand its significance in our lives as believers.
The first aspect of grace we will discuss is saving grace. In Ephesians 2:8-9, it says, 'For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.' This passage emphasizes that salvation is a free gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ.
Saving grace is God's unmerited favor towards us, freely giving us what we do not deserve.
The second aspect of grace is sustaining grace. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Paul writes, 'But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Sustaining grace is the power and strength that God provides to help us persevere through trials and difficulties.
It is the assurance that God's grace is enough to sustain us in our weaknesses and challenges.
The third aspect of grace is sanctifying grace. In 1 Corinthians 15:10, Paul says, 'But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.' Sanctifying grace refers to the desire, will, and power that God gives us to live according to His will.
It is through His grace that we are transformed and enabled to live a holy and righteous life.
In conclusion, grace is a gift freely given by God. It is His unmerited favor that saves us, sustains us, and empowers us to live for Him. Let us embrace and appreciate the amazing grace of God in our lives.
May we always remember that it is by grace we have been saved, and it is by grace we are able to live a life pleasing to God.
