Introduction

According to popular search engines, people are most afraid of flying, public speaking, heights, the dark, intimacy, death, failure, rejection, spiders, and commitment. The Bible has a lot to say about fear. We are told to fear the Lord, but not to fear anything else. In 1 John 4:18, John tells us that fear is not compatible with God's perfect love. This perfect love is a love from God that is genuine and fulfilling its purpose. It is a love that gives us confidence and drives out fear.

POINT #1: God's Love Gives Assurance (1 John 4:17)

God's love is like a warehouse of assurance. When we are filled with God's love, we have confidence and assurance in Him. We can seek the Lord and have faith in Him. We can be confident in His love for us and know that He can resolve our fears. Just like a warehouse stores goods for distribution, God's love stores assurance for us.

POINT #2: God's Love Empowers Us (1 John 4:18a)

God's love gives us power and enables us to overcome fear. The Spirit of God that dwells in us is not a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline. When we face fear, we can rely on God's power and have confidence in Him. We can trust that He will strengthen us and help us overcome our fears.

POINT #3: God's Love Declares Confidence (1 John 4:18b)

God's perfect love drives out fear. When we know and abide in God's love, fear has no place in our lives. We can have a sound mind and declare our confidence in God. Fear is destructive and can paralyze us, but with God's love, we can boldly say that we will not be afraid.

Conclusion

Fear has no place in the lives of those who have experienced God's perfect love. We can seek the Lord, have faith in Him, and be confident in His love. We can be empowered by His love to overcome fear and declare our confidence in Him. Let us rely on God's love to drive out fear from our lives and live fear-free.
