Summary: KEEP ALLOWING THE OLD MAN TO CREEP BACK IN.
TURN OFF THE FAUCET
GAL 2:20
JOHN 3:30
INTRO: JESUS “COME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF DEVIL”
A). THIEF COMES BUT TO KILL, STEAL, DESTROY (BRING BAD)
B). DEVIL IS THE ANCHOR BEHIND THE SIN IN OUR LIFE,
BUT IT IS LUST OF FLESH THAT TURNS INTO SIN.
C). WE CAN BLAME DEVIL ALL WE WANT, BUT OUR SINS COME
FROM OUR LUST.
D). IN OTHER WORDS, WE CAN BLAME NO ONE BUT SELF WHEN
IT COMES TO THE SIN IN OUR LIVES.
F). WE’VE GOT TO TURN OFF THE FAUCET.
G). WE GET EXCITED WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WHAT JESUS CAN
DO FOR US, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO US HAVING TO DO
SOMETHING TO HELP SELF, THE EXCITEMENT SLOWS DOWN.
H). SOME STILL LET THE FAUCET DRIP.
I). LIKE THE MAN THAT COMES INTO HIS BATHROOM, THE
FAUCET IS RUNNING WIDE OPEN AND HIS BATHROOM IS
FLOODING.
J). HE GETS A MOP AND STARTS MOPPING TO NO AVAIL. GETS
A BIGGER MOP, STILL NO GOOD. TAKES MOPPING
CLASSES, WATER IS STILL RUNNING. HIRES HELP, NO
GOOD. REDEDICATES HIMSELF TO MOPPING HARDER THAN
EVER BEFORE. FINALLY BELIEVES HE IS SUPPOSED TO
JUST LIVE THAT WAY, BUYS RUBBER BOOTS, A WATER BED
AND SETTLES DOWN IN A FLOODED HOUSE.
K). THE EASY SOLUTION IS TO JUST TURN OFF THE FAUCET
AND HIS TROUBLES WOULD DISSIPATE.
L). SPIRITUALLY, THE FAUCET IS SYMBOLIC OF OUR OLD
LIFE/WAYS.
M). THERE ARE FOLKS FRANTICALLY TRYING TO MOP UP THEIR
LIVES WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE FAUCET.
N). SEARCHING THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS FOR AN ANSWER
WHILE THE FAUCET IS STILL RUNNING
2). MOST REQUESTED PRAYER “GROW CLOSER TO THE LORD”
A). VALIANT REQUEST; OUR WILLINGNESS ALONE WON’T DO
IT.
B). MANY DESIRE TO BE RICH, FEW WILLING TO MAKE IT
HAPPEN.
C). MANY DESIRE TO KNOW JESUS, FEW WILLING MAKE
HAPPEN.
D). HAVE TO BE WILLING TO MAKE CHANGES TO TURN OFF
FAUCET.
E). WILLINGNESS TO PULL WEEDS THAT CHOKE OUT WORD.
F). STEPS NEEDED TO TURN OFF FAUCET.
1). SACRIFICE:
A). GIVE UP SOMETHING IMPORTANT FOR SOMETHING ELSE…
B). RICH YOUNG RULER “WHAT LACK I YET”
C). HIS UNWILLINGNESS TO SACRIFICE OLD LIFE.
D). UNWILLINGNESS TO SET ASIDE THE WEIGHT THAT
EASILY…
E). WANT TO HOLD ONTO OLD LIFE, NOT EXCHANGE FOR NEW
LIFE.
F). WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING, NOT WILLING TO PAY
PRICE.
G). DO ANYTHING TO PLAY PRO SPORTS, PLAY INSTRUMENT.
H). WOULD YOU REALLY? THE HOURS OF PRACTICE, THE
SWEAT, SACRIFICE NEEDED, IT COMES WITH A PRICE.
I). 2 SAM 24:24 – DAVID UNWILLING TO TAKE SOMETHING
HE DID NOT EARN, PAY FOR.
J). BE WILLNG TO PAY THE PRICE TO GET OUT FROM UNDER
THE SIN THAT WEIGHS US DOWN.
2). HUMILITY –
A). GOD HATES PRIDE.
B). PRIDE NOT ALLOW US TO SEE OURSELVES AS WE TRULY
ARE.
C). NOT ALLOW US TO SEEK THE HELP WE NEED.
D). HUMILITY MEANS THE FOCUS IS NO LONGER ON SELF,
BUT JESUS
E). “I MUST DECREASE SO THAT JESUS CAN INCREASE”
F). NO LONGER IS IT ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN GET OUT OF IT.
G). SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD…THEN THINGS ADDED.
H). THIS IS NOT WHAT WE LIKE TO HEAR…LOOK OUT FOR #1.
I). “THOSE THAT LOSE THEIR LIFE WILL FIND THEIR
LIFE.”
3). HUNGER –
A). “THOSE THAT HUNGER AND THIRST AFTER
RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE SHALL BE FILLED”
B). ONLY AFTER YOU HUNGER FOR THE THINGS OF GOD IN
YOUR LIFE WILL YOU BE FILLED.
C). AS LONG AS YOU HUNGER FOR THE WORLD, THE FAUCET
WILL CONTINUE TO RUN, DRIP.
D). SOMETIMES YOU HAVE A CRAVING FOR ONE CERTAIN
FOOD, NOTHING ELSE WILL SUFFICE.
E). THAT’S THE WAY OUR WALK WITH JESUS SHOULD BE,
NOTHING ELSE WILL FILL YOU LIKE JESUS.
CONCLUSION:
A). “WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I THOUGHT, SPOKE, UNDERSTOOD…
B). WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO GROW UP, QUIt LIVING
LIKE WE ARE 15 YOA.
C). WE’VE BEEN IN JESUS LONG ENOUGH TO SHUT OFF THE
FAUCET.
D). IT MAY OCCASIONALLY DRIP AGAIN, BUT WE HAVE THE
STRENGTH AND GRACE IN JESUS TO GET IT SHUT OFF.
E). THIS IS NOT ABOUT JESUS LOVING US MORE
F). “NOTHING CAN SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD”
G). WE KNOW WHERE IS HE IN THIS RELATIONSHIP”
H). WHERE ARE WE? (ADAM WHERE ARE YOU)
I). WE HAVE A PROPENSITY TO BE FICKLE; CHANGE LIKE THE
WIND.
J). IF CHANGE IS ONLY TEMPORARY, HOW DID IT BENEFIT US?
K). TURN OFF THE FAUCET!!!!
