Transformed by Beholding His Glory 2 Corinthians 3:18

Introduction:

Today, we embark on a journey into the transformative power of beholding the glory of the Lord, as revealed in 2 Corinthians 3:18. This scripture illuminates how we are changed as we behold the glory of God with unveiled hearts.

Scripture Passage:

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT): "And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image."

Point 1: The Source of Transformation

The process of transformation begins with encountering the glory of God. As believers, our hearts are opened to behold His glory through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 3, contrasts the fading glory of the old covenant with the surpassing glory of the new covenant in Christ. He reveals that our spiritual eyes are unveiled by the Spirit, allowing us to behold the glory of God. This encounter is not merely external but deeply transformative, shaping us into the likeness of Christ.

Colossians 3:10 (NLT): "Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him."

In this verse, Paul instructs believers to put on their new selves, which is being continually renewed as they grow in their knowledge of God. This renewal involves a transformation of character and identity, mirroring the image of our Creator. As we deepen our relationship with God and grasp His nature more fully, we are changed to reflect His likeness in our lives.

Romans 12:2 (NLT): "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."

Paul exhorts believers to reject conformity to worldly patterns and instead allow God to renew their minds. This transformation begins internally, altering our thought patterns and perspectives. As our minds are renewed by the truth of God's Word and His Spirit, we are transformed outwardly, aligning our lives with His will and purpose.

Point 2: The Process of Transformation

As we behold the glory of the Lord, His Spirit works within us, progressively transforming us into His image. This transformation is not instantaneous but a continual process of renewal and growth.

Paul emphasizes that it is the Lord, who is the Spirit, that brings about this transformation in us. The more we behold His glory through the study of His Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship with Him, the more we are conformed to His likeness. This process involves the renewal of our minds and hearts, aligning us with God's will and character.

Ephesians 4:23-24 (NLT): "Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy."

Paul emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in renewing our inner being. This renewal encompasses our thoughts, attitudes, and ultimately, our character. As we embrace our new identity in Christ, we are empowered to live out the righteousness and holiness that reflect God's nature.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT): "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

Paul assures believers that God's transformative work in us is ongoing and will be completed at Christ's return. This verse underscores the assurance of our spiritual growth and maturity as God faithfully continues His work of transformation in our lives.

Point 3: The Outcome of Transformation

The ultimate goal of our transformation is to reflect the glory of God to the world around us. We become living testimonies of His grace and power, drawing others to experience the same life-changing encounter with Christ.

Paul underscores that as we are changed into His glorious image, we bear witness to His transformative work. Our lives become a testament to His saving power, love, and righteousness. This transformation enables us to fulfil our purpose as ambassadors of Christ, shining His light in a dark world.

Matthew 5:16 (NLT): "In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."

Jesus instructs His followers to live visibly transformed lives that bring glory to God. Our transformed character should manifest in righteous actions and good deeds, drawing others to praise and glorify God through our witness.

1 Peter 2:9 (NLT): "But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."

Peter reminds believers of their identity as God's chosen people, called to reflect His goodness and light to the world. Our transformation into a holy nation and royal priesthood enables us to demonstrate God's character and proclaim His praises to those around us.
