Summary: There are two primary Greek words I would like to investigate today that describe Scripture as the “Word” in the New Testament. The first is the Greek word logos and the second is Rhema.

Matthew 12:36, NKJV

But I say to you that for every idle word (4487) men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

Hopefully, you noticed I placed the Greek reference number for the correct translation of the word -Word in this verse? So it should read; (But I say to you that for every idle RHEMA word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgment.)

I went to bed thinking and pondering on this word, and I had a dream. I was sitting down with God, and I said, Lord can you tell me how this scripture impacts a person’s life? This is what He said to me. There are many believers running around telling people I have given them a revelation and because they say ‘God told me’ they are using the authority and power of My Word (Logos), and by doing this, they cannot be challenged. So they are literally saying, I have a Rhema from God. I then asked God to give me some examples. He said people, say things like “I can live this way or that way because God has revealed to me that it is ok.” Another thing people say is this, ‘God has told them to go to a different church.’ Knowing full well that I (God) never told them, but by using my name, they are stopping any influence or challenge to their decision because “God said.” In other words, they are using the authority and power of My Word (Logos) as an excuse to sin.

By willingly choosing to live this way they are neglecting to live inline with the Logos Word of God, they need to know they will have to give an account for misusing my Word on the day of judgement, called the judgement seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10, Romans 14:10-13). Also by having the word Rhema, it is referencing one who has received the Logos as truth and a definite revelation, not just anyone. Let us read what John 12:48 has to say;

John 12:48, NKJV

He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words(4487), has that which judges him—the word(3056) that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

The revelation of the context in which Jesus shares this compelling truth found in Matthew twelve is also very reassuring and gives us some insight into whom He was speaking to and the wisdom we need to understand the context of verse thirty six from Matthew twelve. Let us read Matthew 12:33-37;

Matthew 12:33-36, NKJV

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word (4487) men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words(3056) you will be justified, and by your words(3056) you will be condemned.”

I find verse 37 also very interesting it could read like this, ‘For by the way you live out the life source – the Logos (the word of God) you will be justified or condemned.’ Let me leave you with these words a minister said to me one day, ‘Don’t allow people to judge or condemn you or even tell you how you should be living based on the Word of God until you see their life oozing the life source and fruit of Gods Word.’

Galatians 6:6 on page 6 is quoted as below: Galatians 6:6, NKJV Let him who is taught the word (4487) share in all good things with him who teaches.; However the greek interlinear bible states the word is Logos (3056) in this verse.
