Summary: What does it Take to Follow Christ?
(1) Paul puts it like this:
(a) forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. (Phil 3:13-14 ~ HCSB)
(2) James said:
(a) “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18 ~HCSB)
b) True discipleship manifest itself in two ways:
(1) Spiritual Growth - Growing in Grace:
(a) Grace of living
(b) Grace of giving
(c) Grace of praying
(d) Grace of serving
(2) Mental Growth – Growing in Knowledge
(a) Learning more about our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. There will always be some in the church who are not growing.
a) There vision for the church is no further than the end of their nose.
b) Anything that means progress they are against it.
c) They will not tolerate even the thought of change.
3. Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
a) Think of Judas:
(1) Judas decided to follow Jesus.
(2) Judas heard Jesus teach.
(3) He went out two by two with the others, healing the sick and exorcising demons.
(4) Judas did a lot of disciple kinds of things.
(5) Yet he is remembered solely for how his relationship with Jesus ended.
How you finish your life, your ministry is absolutely crucial to everything that goes before it. Never give up, never be content always stretch forward for more…
