Summary: What you focus on you get more of.

Matthew 7:1-6

1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Intro:

In our lives we are continually searching for something. Searching for the right person, the right job, the right church the right clothes, etc.

In our search we tend to magnify things. We either magnify the good and bad.

You Choose What You Magnify

In our daily lives

We can get caught up in magnifying the wrong things.

Seeking things more than seeking Him.

Looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

In your relationships

In your relationships, you chose what you magnify.

You can magnify the good and the bad.

What you magnify you get more of.

You can magnify the good and get more of it. If you magnify the bad you get more of it.

In our search for the right relationships we need to know this…

The only way to have the right people in your life is to be the right person.

People search to find the right person for them, but in their search of the right person, they need to concentrate on BEING the right person.

How we become the right person is determined by what we magnify in our lives.

Matthew 7:4

4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?

How you see the speck in someone’s eye you got to be close.

We tend to pick apart the ones we are closest to.

Every PLANK is made up of a lot of SPECKS

In our Church

We get caught up in what is wrong with the church.

If you come to church looking for something to get mad about you will find it.

What you seek you will find.

Matthew 7:7

7“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Conclusion:

Many of us are in a search for something or someone to complete us, to satisfy us, to fulfill us.

In that search we tend to magnify things in our lives. (passing judgement, looking for the wrong)

How we look at others will be returned to us.

Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Here is a thought. We need to put down the magnifying glass and get out the mirror.

We need to fix ourselves before we can fix others.

Matthew 22:37-39

37Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

We can’t love others until we love ourselves.

Instead of magnifying what we don’t have, or what is wrong, just magnify who He is.

We go through life looking for things to complete us. We magnify things in the search.

The thing is this.

When we magnify The Lord,

He COMPLETES us

He SATISFIES us

He FULFILLS us

He KNOWS what we need

He HAS what we need.

Let’s MAGNIFY THE LORD TODAY.
