They Wanted Wine
Contributed by Pastor/Author: Terry Sisney on Aug 1, 2002 (message contributor)
Summary: Many People have lost the wine anointing of the Holy Spirit, Unfortunately there is often a long time between the time we lose something and the time we begin to miss it, and then eventually wish for it back again.
John 2:3
3And (when they wanted wine), the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
notice: Jesus was there, his disciples were there ( but still there was no wine)
it is possible to be in the presence of Jesus and not be ministered to. I.e. to say ( not take him in or receive him.) Martha took Jesus into her house but never took the time to know him.
Mary makes an observation: They have no wine. Someone has to be the prophet of the hour, i.e. (somebody has to be able to discern the spiritual condition of those around them.) Someone has to be bold enough to address that condition.
Prov 27:6
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Many times when our deepest needs are addressed it feels like a wounding, but if a broken bone sets wrong it has to be rebroken in order to set it aright. (sometimes wounding is required, to bring wholeness)
John 2:1
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
The 3rd day is significant in that ( 3 speaks of divine fulness ) The Godhead is revealed in (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) God is revealed as (1)omnipotent ( 2)ominicient (3)omninpresent
Wine also speaks of fulness, (as water is the basic requirement of life, ) Wine is that which surpasses that basic requirement, it does not replace or negate the neccessity for water, (Fill the waterpots with water)
but excells.
I am come that they might have life and that more abundantly
Jesus came as the door to open the door to that abundant life = the Holy Spirit
When we speak of the Holy Spirit, we are speaking of that which surpasses, excells, supercedes, in quanity and quality.
The book of acts is called the acts of the apostles, it should more appropriately be called ( The Acts of The Holy Ghost through the apostles).
The book of acts reveals the work and the ministry of the Holy Ghost in and through the church.
When we speak of the HolyGhost we are speaking of life, The terms used to describe him are all concerning life. Fire, Oil, Rivers of Water, Wine, Wind,
The effects of this Spirit Baptism are many. ( they are all charachtarized by the word (Full or Fullness, just As Jesus promised, (life abundant)
Acts 2:13 These men are full of new wine
6:3 Stephen was a man full of the Holy Ghost (6:5 he was full of faith and of the Holy Ghost)
6:8 He Was full of Faith and Power
Acts 4:8 Peter filled with the Holy Ghost
(vs 13 They saw the Boldness of Peter and John)
Acts 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Acts 2:39
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
(They< want> wine, Mary said) This is the prerequisite to the 2nd blessing of the Holy Ghost Baptism
If any man
He that
Whatsoever ye
How many are satisfied with simple survival?
How it must grieve the Father and the Son when we are selective concerning that which he has provided, as though we have the right to decide which of his blessings and provisions are the best , based upon our feeble perception.
If you want wine tonight, I’m talking to you (And if you don’t, I’m talking to you to, In hopes that you will become thirsty for more.
