Summary: The Word of God is alive and is the only book that literally can breathe life into something that is dead!

This book is not like any other book:

We can say words that carry weight

Out of the same mouth come blessings an cursings

...but no word has the power of the Word Of God

I. P-enetrating Power - It penetrates through every level

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow...

A. Quick – “dzaho” - to be among the living, living water, having vital power in itself

B. Powerful – “energace” - active

C. Two Edged Sword – both ways

D. Psalm 119:165 - Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

II. O-vercoming Power - It overcomes every obstacle

Luke 4:8 - ... Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written...

A. When in the wilderness Jesus overcame the devil through the power of God’s Word.

B. We must depend upon His word

C. Romans 8:37 - Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

III. W-onderworking Power - It turns the ordinary into the extaordinary

Luke 5:5 - And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

A. Toiled all the night – sometimes you have tried as hard as you can try...

B. Taken nothing – no results

C. Nevertheless – it doesn’t matter what it looks like...

D. At Thy Word – looking for a word

E. Let down the net – take immediate action

F. John 15:7 - If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

IV. E-verlasting Power - It transcends time

Matthew 24:35 - Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

A. In this world everything is temporal...

B. God’s Word endures

C. Psalm 119:89 - For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

V. R-evealing Power - It reveals the truth from a lie

Hebrews 4:12 – The word of God...is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

A. Discerner – “criticos” - skilled in judging

B. The Word reveals God’s heart and plan for man

C. It reveals God’s love for man through the plan of salvation

D. It shows the work of the Holy Ghost who cleanses, empowers, and directs totally committed Christians

E. John 16:13 - Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
