Then I Will Teach
Contributed by Joel Hoyer on Nov 12, 2018 (message contributor)
Summary: 13th in a Lenten Series on Psalm 51
But young people, I want to tell you right now, I can teach you even more from simple experience, from simply, sadly knowing what it’s like to be a transgressor, someone who has stepped across the lines drawn by God and has no excuse and no choice but to throw myself on the mercy of almighty God. And I have received that mercy and grace right here before the altar of God. What a privilege it is to take into your body what Jesus gave you on the cross, His true Body and Blood in the bread and wine, to kneel humbly here and know that Your Savior loves you that much that He would place His forgiveness literally inside of you. There is no peace that you will ever get in life that can match that peace.
If you had our act together you would never need or have a hunger for the healing and forgiveness that comes here in Holy communion. But you don’t, so you’ll need this great sacrament all your life. And by the way, as the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy, so I say to you: “Let no one despise your youth”. (1 Timothy 4:12 HCSB). Don’t ever be afraid to teach others what you’ve learned about the Grace of God in Christ – as one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread…
