No matter how weary or uncertain we feel at year’s end, Christ’s presence and strength sustain us and give hope for every day ahead.

Introduction

Some of us count the days on the calendar with a sigh. Others count with a smile. Many of us do both. The year has been a quilt of bright patches and frayed threads—birthdays and funerals, milestones and setbacks, answered prayers and unanswered questions. The days have left their marks. Your planner bears the ink of meetings kept and moments missed. Your heart holds both praise and pain. As the clock inches toward another chapter, one word rises like a lighthouse over the waters: Christ.

“Best of all, God is with us.” — John Wesley

If that anchor holds—and it does—then the weariness that whispers you won’t make it doesn’t get the last word. The whispers fade when the Word speaks. And the Word tells us that there is strength available for souls that feel stretched, help for hands that feel empty, hope for hearts that feel hesitant. How? Because the Lord Jesus does not step away when the year winds down; He steps closer. He sustains. He supplies. He shepherds.

Maybe you entered today with a backpack of burdens—worries about your family, fatigue from your job, questions about your future. Are you tired of trying to carry it all? What if you heard the Savior say, “You don’t have to carry it by yourself”? What if grace met you not at the finish line, but right where your feet are standing? This is why we gather—to be reminded that our strength does not come from our grit; it comes from His grace. Our confidence is not in our stamina; it’s in our Savior.

We will consider three simple and steadying truths: - Steadfast in Christ as the Year Ends: When the days feel thin, His presence remains thick with comfort. - Strength for Each New Day: When tomorrow’s to-do list looks tall, His power meets us in the morning. - Secure Hope for the Road Ahead: When the path looks foggy, His promises shine like mile markers of mercy.

Before we move forward, hear the Scripture that has held up saints in prison cells and kitchen tables, in foxholes and hospital rooms, at weddings and at gravesides. Let it ring over your life right now.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Short. Strong. Solid. Like a staff in a shepherd’s hand or a nail in a carpenter’s palm, this verse knows its work. It lifts the drooping. It steadies the shaken. It reminds the weary that Christ is not far off. He is near, and He is enough.

Would you pray with me?

Father, we thank You that in a world of shifting sands, Your Son is our sure foundation. As this year draws to a close, gather our scattered thoughts and settle our restless hearts. Where we are tired, give us Your strength. Where we are anxious, grant us Your peace. Where we are uncertain, guide us with Your wisdom. Lord Jesus, be our steadfastness at sunset, our strength at sunrise, and our hope for every mile ahead. Holy Spirit, open our ears to hear, our eyes to see, and our hearts to receive all that You intend to give. We ask this in the strong and saving name of Jesus. Amen.

Steadfast in Christ as the Year Ends

The days at the end of a year often carry weight. Plans pile up. Thoughts about what worked and what did not can press on the mind. Bodies feel it too. Sleep gets thin. Appetites swing. The heart wants a calm place to stand. Christ gives that place. He holds steady when the page turns on the calendar.

His steadiness is not a mood. It is His way. He does not waver with the headlines or the to-do list. He stays with His people. He keeps His word. He keeps watch in the night and in the day. When your hands feel full, He stays. When your hands feel empty, He stays.

Paul knew that kind of steadiness. He did not write from a porch with a view. He wrote from a hard place with chains and guards. He had learned to be at rest in lean days and in full days. He had learned to sing and to wait. He had learned to ask and to accept. He had learned that Christ supplies strength for the task at hand.

So as the year thins out, we do not need a new trick. We need the old truth that still breathes. Christ gives strength. He does this in actual hours and real rooms. In kitchens and offices. In cars and classrooms. In waiting rooms and team meetings. His strength fits each setting and each soul.

This strength holds up trust. It holds up patience. It holds up kindness when tempers flicker. It holds up focus when thoughts drift. It holds up thankfulness when news lands hard. It holds up courage when plans change. It holds up love when love costs.

Through Christ speaks to union. It means more than help from a distance. It means you belong to Him, and He holds you within Himself. Branch to vine. Body to head. Sheep to shepherd. A living bond. His life flows toward you. His peace settles in you. His power moves through you for the things He calls you to do.

Through Christ points us to a Person, not a method. You turn toward Him and you find Him ready. You call His name and He hears. You bring your small faith and He meets it with His care. You ask for daily bread and He gives grace for the day in front of you. You read His word and He lifts your mind. You obey His voice and He steadies your steps.

Through Christ also means we do not have to invent strength. We receive it. We draw near. We stay near. We keep a real walk with Him. Quiet prayer. Honest words. Simple trust. Regular worship. Ordinary acts of love. In that nearness, the verse lives. It is no motto on a wall. It is oxygen for the soul.

Strengthens me speaks to an action that keeps going. It does not run once and then stop. Christ keeps on giving strength as each hour asks for it. He does not wait for perfect moods. He meets you while you lace your shoes. He meets you at the sink. He meets you in the line at the store. He meets you when the email stings. He meets you when the house gets quiet.

Strengthens me means the help reaches inside. It is not only muscle or energy. It is more. It is the lift to keep serving when you feel thin. It is the calm to hold your tongue. It is the light to make a wise choice. It is the mercy to say sorry. It is the hope to try again. It is the patience to wait for God’s timing.

Strengthens me does not fade when the day grows old. The Lord gives new strength in the evening as He does in the morning. Ask Him for it. Name the task. Name the fear. Name the dread. Then say His name. Lord Jesus, give me strength for this. He hears short prayers. He answers in ways you can use.

All things stands inside a story. Paul writes it after he speaks of hunger and fullness. He writes it after he speaks of need and plenty. He learned contentment in each kind of day. So all things does not float in the air. All things stands on ground we can see. It points to every season and every duty that God places in our path.

All things covers work hours and sick days. It covers hard talks and quiet care. It covers giving and receiving. It covers doing without and sharing in abundance. It covers praise and it covers pain. It covers the load you carry for your family. It covers the line items that must be closed. It covers the bedtime when the mind will not stop.

All things means Christ is enough for the assignment of the day. He strengthens you to be faithful in what is in front of you. He strengthens you to endure what lasts longer than you wish. He strengthens you to rejoice without guilt when good gifts come. He strengthens you to stay humble when thanked. He strengthens you to be steady when ignored.

I can is a word of trust and action. It does not brag. It breathes. It receives strength and moves the feet. It takes the next step in faith. It picks up the phone. It writes the note. It forgives the debt. It keeps the promise. It shows up when showing up matters.

I can belongs to those who are in Christ. His grace does not erase effort. It empowers it. So you plan with prayer. You set limits with wisdom. You rest because you are human. You serve because love is active. You repent when you miss the mark. You try again because His mercy is fresh.

I can also speaks to a shared life. We do not walk alone. The Spirit helps. The Scriptures guide. The church stands with you. Friends carry part of the load. Songs carry truth into tired hearts. The Lord uses all of this to strengthen His people. And He will do it again today.
