Psalm 142 Maschil or The Wisdom of David;

1. David's Prayer

The Place of Prayer - A Prayer when he was in the cave.

The Path of Prayer - 1 I cried unto the Lord with my voice;

The Purpose of Prayer - with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.

The Passion of Prayer - 2 I poured out my complaint before him;

The Profit of Prayer - I shewed before him my trouble.

2. David's Problem

The Trial - 3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,

The Trust - then thou knewest my path.

The Treachery - In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.

The Trouble -

The Desolation - 4 I looked on my right hand,

The Desperation - and beheld,

The Dereliction - but there was no man that would know me:

The Deprivation - refuge failed me;

The Destitution - no man cared for my soul.

3. David's Proclamation of -

God's Sovereignty - 5 I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said,

God's Security - Thou art my refuge

God's Sufficiency - and my portion in the land of the living.

4. David's Promise of -

A Response - 6 Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low:

A Rest - deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I

A Release - 7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name

A Relief - the righteous shall compass me about;

A Reward - for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
