Summary: The Jews defend themselves and Haman's punishment continues
In the month of Adar on the 13th day, the time for the king's command and decree was set to be executed. On that day, the enemies of the Jews were hoping to overpower them. Instead, the opposite happened with the Jews overpowering them. The Jews had gathered in their cities and laid their hands on those who sought to harm them. Nobody was able to withstand them because fear fell on the people. All the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and all those doing the king's work helped the Jews because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. Esther 9:1-3
Haman's execution showed everyone that God was not only watching, but that He will defend His people. Mordecai had risen to such a position of prominence that nobody wanted to mess with him. Romans 8: 31 says, "What then shall we say these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" God showed that He was with Mordecai and the Jews by supernaturally intervening on their behalf.
The Jews killed all their enemies. 500 men were killed in Shushan including Haman's 10 sons. Esther 9:4-10 The punishment of Haman didn't stop with his execution; it passed down to the next generation.
Generational curses and generational sins are a very real thing. Some sins such as idolatry can carry a curse that goes to the 3rd and 4th generation. Exodus 20:4 The only way to stop generational curses is to repent on behalf of yourself and your ancestors for the sins and renounce them in Jesus's name.
On that same day, King Xerxes told Queen Esther about the 500 men and 10 sons of Haman. King Xerxes then asked Queen Esther what they have done in the rest of the king's provinces and what was her petition. Esther 9:11-12
Queen Esther's request was that a decree go out that the 10 sons of Haman be hanged on the gallows. The decree was issued, and the sons were hanged. Esther 9:13-14 Yes, these happened to be the very same gallows Haman had built for Mordecai. The same gallows Haman himself was hung on. His 10 sons were also hung on them although they were already dead. Therefore we should NEVER set up traps for other people because we WILL fall into them ourselves.
