Summary: We must consider what happens when the well goes dry? Broken cisterns? Empty can be spiritually dangerous.

THE WELL IS DRY: EMPTY…

COMPASSION FATIGUE! There is a pastor so poured out: HE IS NOT BURNED OUT! HE IS BURNED UP…

DO WE EVER GET TIRED? DO WE EVER GET SO TIRED THAT WE FEEL EMPTY? HOW ABOUT GETTING TIRED OF CRYING?

HAVE YOU EVER SO GIVEN YOURSELF THAT THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO GIVE?

I PROBABLY CALL IT COMPASSION FATIGUE? Not only have we burned out, we are burned up… I have nothing to give and to be real honest I am to the point: I AM NOT READY TO RECEIVE. People have been mean and cruel. You have been despised and rejected. Stress, worry and anxiety leads to separation and isolation. WE ARE EMOTIONALLY DRAINED… SPIRITUALLY DRAINED.

*EMPTY: nothing, unhappy, no value, nothingness, feeling of despair, the lack of joy, no peace, little to no hope,

*USELESS: not expecting the desired outcome, not fulfilling, no good, hopeless, weak, inferior, no self-worth.

*TIRED: weary, need rest, not fresh, no energy, no strength, exhausted, run down, annoyed, faint.

*FATIGUE: extreme mental or physical tiredness, weak, exhausted.

Ecclesiastes 1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 1:1 (MSG) These are the words of the Quester, David's son and king in Jerusalem: 2 Smoke, nothing but smoke. [That's what the Quester says.] There's nothing to anything—it's all smoke. 3 What's there to show for a lifetime of work, a lifetime of working your fingers to the bone?

I BELIEVE THERE IS MORE THAN BEING EMPTY--- I KNOW THERE IS SPIRITUAL

EMPTINESS…THE WELL HAS GONE DRY… NO RAIN? NOT DEEP ENOUGH?

Has life ever taken us to the place of being so tired that nothing seems of any value? We take a step of being offended and upset. HOW DID I GET SO EMPTY? HAVE I FORGOT TO FILL UP? HAS LIFE AND MINISTRY SO DRAINED US? WHAT ARE THE STEPS THAT LEAD TO EMPTINESS? WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN JUDAS IS SITTING AT YOUR TABLE?

HOW DOES A WELL GO DRY? A GLASS WITH A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM? BROKEN CISTERNS:

Jeremiah 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Jeremiah 2:13 (MSG) "My people have committed a compound sin: they've walked out on me, the fountain Of fresh flowing waters, and then dug cisterns— cisterns that leak, cisterns that are no better than sieves.

EMPTY: NOTHING TO HOPE FOR… NOTHING TO QUENCH OUR THIRST… THE WELL IS DRY… God does not just remove the emptiness… GOD’S PLAN IS TO FILL THE EMPTINESS WITH HIS PROVISIONS AND PURPOSE.

CONCLUSION: When the tank is empty we must FILL UP… Listen, (Cowboy movie: The Indian gets off the horse and puts his ear to the ground to clearly listen.) THE SECRET TO OVERCOME EMPTINESS IS WAIT… WHILE YOU WAIT, YOU MUST KEEP HOPING AND EXPECTING… burnout can come after great victories.

Isaiah 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

A GOOD SHIP CAPTAIN KNOWS IN A STORM SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO CHANGE THE SAILS… IN A BAD STORM THE CAPTAIN HAS TO TAKE DOWN THE SAILS AND CAST THE ANCHORS…

Acts 27:28 And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms. 29 Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day. 30 And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship, 31 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

BY FAITH WE MUST LEARN TO RECEIVE… GOD’S PURPOSE AND PROVISIONS… STAY WITH THE SHIP. IN DUE SEASON.

Acts 27:33 And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing. 34 Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
