Summary: Here in this chapter, it’s not the physical well, which is deep, but rather it’s the Samaritan’s women heart which is very deep. Her heart is 1000 years deep.

The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? John 4:11

Here in this chapter, it’s not the physical well, which is deep, but rather it’s the Samaritan’s women heart which is very deep. Her heart is 1000 years deep(The depth of her heart is 1000 years). The depth of her heart begins with her having 5 husbands to the history of Samaritans. The root cause for all her sins is that Samaritans lacked a place of worship. Jesus went deeper to the deepest part of the heart of Samaritan women. Jesus began to enter the heart of Samaritan women by first inquiring about her husband and then reached to the final(deepest) part of her heart by discussing the history of the Samaritans.

Jesus started exposing or correcting the sin of Samaritan women by inquiring about her husband. Rather than resisting, hiding, or justifying her sin, she accepts Jesus' correction. She allows Jesus to correct her even further till he reached the deepest part of her heart. By exposing and correction of her sin, Jesus entered the deep well of her heart. Once he entered, He reached to the deepest part of her heart to the history of the Samaritans. After he reached the deepest part of her heart, he began to give the living water. By correcting her, he was purifying or cleansing her heart.

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Matthew 19:16-21-22

When the rich young ruler was corrected by Jesus, he went far away from Jesus. However, when the Samaritan woman was corrected, she accepted Jesus' correction, drew nearer to Him, and became part of God’s plans. The rich young ruler might have missed out on heaven due to his unwillingness to accept correction, while the Samaritan woman embraced (or accepted) God’s correction and thereby became part of His divine plans.

When we see Jesus, we see the reflection of our heart and understand how deep our heart is. Human heart is very deep. For some of us, its 100 years deep; for others, for its 10 km deep and so on. We must allow Jesus to come into our heart, expose, correct (our sins) and purify it. The only way Jesus can enter our hearts is by exposing our sins and correcting them. Jesus comes into your heart by exposing or correcting your sins. If you allow him, he will continue to correct one sin after another until he reaches the deepest part of your heart and the root (root cause) of all your sins. He is willing to go to the deepest of your heart and cleanse you inside out. He always focuses on your heart and desires it to be His temple. He wants to be the king of your heart and rule your heart.

Jesus will start cleansing your heart by correcting or revealing your sin. If you allow him, he will gradually reveal, rectify, and purify all the sins within your heart until he reaches to the deepest part of your heart. Once you allow him by accepting his correction, he purifies your heart to its deepest depths. Once he reaches to the deepest part of your heart, the living waters will flow. We must allow him to reach the deepest part of our heart; once he reaches it, he will activate or draw the wells of living water.

Samaritan women allowed Jesus to reach the deepest part of her heart (which 1000 years deep), Jesus cleansed her heart and activated (or draw) the wells of living water within her. Jesus enters our heart by correction and exposing our sins. Instead of resisting his corrections, we need to allow his corrections until he reaches the deepest part of our hearts. Once he reaches to the deepest part of our heart, he will activate (draw) the living waters.

Do you want the living waters to flow (or spring) from your heart? You need to allow Jesus to correct and expose your sins one by one till he reaches to the deepest part of your heart. How do you respond when Jesus corrects you? When corrected, don’t go far away from Jesus but instead accept his correction. Accepting his correction will lead you to streams of living water.
