The Truth About The Sabbath
There's a lot of mass confusion about the Sabbath, and due to the mass confusion, man has made a mess out of the Sabbath. Folks should spend time in Ex. 12, a month, a year.... ere how long it takes for the Holy Spirit to enlighten them. God made known to the nation of Israel when their SABBATH(s) started.
It is very plain in scripture that the Sabbath was not ever given to the NT church body.
If I believed as many, I'd have to believe that only one Sabbath, when actually, there's more. Why?
(1) During the creation account, as found in Genesis, NO MONTH is given or named. Only Days!
(2) And the evening and the morning were the ... day.
(3) In Ex. 12:1-2 God told Moses that 'this month shall be unto you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you (Israel).
(4) Nissan - March–April - Passover April is the beginning of months for Israel.
(5) When God rested on the Sabbath day after creation, did He rest on the first Sabbath day in the month Nissan?
(6) If so all is well. If not, then He had two Sabbaths. One after creation that Moses recorded some 2500 years after He rested. The second being His holy sabbath that He established with the nation of Israel.
(7) Furthermore, we know that when God gave the law on Sinai, the nation of Israel had a weekly sabbath, as well as high Sabbaths, for they took the body of Jesus down before the high sabbath.
The truth of the matter is simple to those who will admit they believe something not true regarding the Sabbath and to whom it was given and why.
'Thou shalt not steal' and that includes, whether you agree or believe it or not, that which God gave to the nation of Israel (the Sabbath) and force it in and on the NT church body.
Moses wrote what God told him to write. What Moses penned was what God did during creation and Moses recorded the acts some 2500 years after creation. Fact is, the book of Genesis is history of what happened and to whom. You won't find many 'THOU SHALT NOTS' in Genesis.
It's an assumption void of scriptural evidence to teach that Adam, Shem, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, etc. kept the Sabbath.
That these people had a moral conscience is a given and Paul speaks of this in Rom. 1-3.
It's a biblical documented fact: 'No one kept the sabbath until Exodus 12! It was IMPOSSIBLE for them anyone to keep the Sabbath, before Ex. 12, because in Ex. 12, the Jewish calendar is established. Such is why the nation of Israel, NOT the NT church, was told to remember the sabbath, Ex. 20."
Bible Calendar
A good bible calendar will reveal to the sincere student of scripture no one had the Law of Moses for about 2500 years, and that includes the law of the Sabbath.
"We learn in Galatians 3:16 to 19 that 430 years after God made His promise to Abraham, Moses received the law from God on Mount Sinai.
From Adam to Moses was about 2500 years. God made promises to Abram about 427 years after the flood. The law was added to the promise about 1495 years before Christ was made of a woman, made under the law."
Some believe and teach that God gave the law He gave to Moses to someone shortly after He finished His creation, but they're not certain or sure to whom or when. And they don't know why God had to give the law again, ( :
Yet, because they find the word 'LAW' and 'COMMANDMENTS' in Genesis, they're 100% certain that it's the same laws and commandments God gave Moses on Mt. Sinai. Even though Moses is known as the lawgiver, there be some that believe the law was given to someone - be it Adam, Seth, Enoch, Nimrod, Noah, etc. etc. - and that someone failed to follow the commands in Deut. 6, even though Deut. 6 was not given till after the law was given on Mt. Sinai, for the book of Deuteronomy is a recap of Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers.
Still they believe that Abraham followed the same law that God gave Moses, even though Moses was not a gleam in his gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-granddaddys' eye at the time of Abraham.
Deut. 5:1-5
1. And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
2. The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
3. The LORD made not this covenant with **our fathers,** but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
