The Tree Of Knowledge Of Good And Evil Series

Summary: The second tree mentioned in scripture.
Genesis 2:9 “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow…the tree of knowledge of good and evil”.
1. TWO FORCES
“good and evil”
You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to know that good and evil are present in the world today. Most people will acknowledge this, but not as many are prepared to acknowledge the two people behind these forces - God and Satan.
2. TEMPTING FEATURES
The tree of knowledge appealed to man’s tripartite constitution - body, soul and spirit.
It appealed to Eve’s body because it was “good for food.”
It appealed to Eve’s soul because it was “pleasant to the eyes.”
It appealed to Eve’s spirit because it was “to be desired to make one wise”.
Satan tempted Christ in the same way but He conquered where Eve failed (read Luke 4:1-12).
3. TOTAL FREEDOM
God gave Adam and Eve a choice. He gives us a choice. We are not robots. We have a free will. God longs for us to choose to love Him and obey Him.
O happy day, that fixed my choice
On Thee, my Saviour and my God!
Well may this glowing heart rejoice,
And tell its raptures all abroad.
Happy day, happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away!
He taught me how to watch and pray,
And live rejoicing every day,
Happy day, happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away!
