The Transforming Power Of The Word Of God

Introduction

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

The Word of God is not ordinary literature. It is not merely history, poetry, or moral instruction. The Bible declares in Hebrews 4:12 that the Word of God is living and active. This means it is dynamic, powerful, and purposeful.

The Word of God operates in three distinct but connected dimensions in the life of a believer:

It informs,

it performs and

it transforms

When the Word is received, it enters as information.

When it begins to work, it moves into performance.

When it completes its work, it results in transformation.

Let us explore these three dimensions.

1. The Word of God Informs

Every encounter with God begins with revelation. Before there is change, there must be knowledge.

The Bible says in Hosea 4:6 “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children”

The bible says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” - Ignorance limits destiny.

When the Word comes, it enlightens the mind and opens spiritual understanding. When you hear the words: “By His stripes you are healed,” “You are more than a conqueror,” or “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” These truths first enter your life as information.

Consider Mary in Luke 1:26-33 “In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you. Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

The angel brought her a message. That message was information: “You shall conceive and bring forth a son.” Before the miracle occurred, she received the Word. The Word informs you about: Who God is, who you are in Christ, what belongs to you and What God requires. There can be no faith without information. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”

2. The Word of God Performs

The Word does not remain information. It carries divine power to accomplish what it declares. It is the “Dunamis Power”! Dunamis is a term originating from classical Greek that conveys the idea of power, ability, might, or strength. In the biblical context, it encompasses the vitality of divine purpose, moral power for righteous living, and miraculous power granted by God. The term eventually gave rise to such English words as “dynamic” and “dynamite,” underscoring the idea of force and energy.

In Isaiah 55:11, God says: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please.”

When the Word is believed and received, it begins to perform.

Consider Abraham. God called him to leave his homeland and go to a land that He would show him, promising to make him a great nation and bless him (Genesis 12:1-3). This promise was reiterated in Genesis 17:4-6, where God stated, "No longer will you be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations."

God informed him that he would be the father of many nations. That was information. Years passed, but the Word was performing behind the scenes, strengthening his faith, aligning circumstances, preserving his body, and preparing Sarah’s womb leading to the birth of his son Isaac fulfilling the promise of being the father of many nations. The Word performs by: Healing the sick, restoring broken lives, opening closed doors, convicting hearts and producing faith

When Jesus Christ spoke to the storm, “Peace, be still” in Mark chapter 4, the Word performed immediately. Creation obeyed. The Word carries divine energy. It is self-executing when coupled with faith.
