The Spirit of the Age
Preparing for what’s coming!
Sunday, 5/21/23 & 5/28/23
Something that amazes me is that there are many in the church today who believe that prophets and prophecy are no longer relevant or active in this era of the New Testament, and that they ceased operating like they once did in the Old Testament.
From what I can determine, I believe that there has never been a time when there were as many prophetic voices as we hear today. We are nearing the end of the age of Grace, preparing for things to happen and we are on the fast track to the Second Coming of Jesus.
It’s evident also that the world is one track, leading to destruction; while the True Church that’s making ourselves ready for Jesus’ coming is on a parallel track that leads to revival, spiritual awakening and overcoming power that will increase until we are taken out of this world to be with Jesus.
Both of these “tracks” are revealed in the prophetic word of God, and both are pre-destinated and pre-determined in the perfect plan of God for the deliverance of the redeemed and the judgment of those who are determined to live in rebellion against the Lord.
While many in the world live as though they are ostriches with their heads stuck in the sand so they can’t see, or refuse to see, that judgment is coming, the church, those that believe in, and worship, and faithfully serve Jesus are waiting for his coming. Some are looking for the rapture, while others are getting ready to endure the tribulation while being faithful to the end, when Jesus comes again.
Though theologians of the church often disagree on the idea of a rapture with some believing in a Pre-Trib rapture, some in a Post-Trib rapture, and some don’t believe there’s going to be any rapture at all, whatever each one believes will not change the Truth. It will be according to God’s own word of prophecy, and that’s why I believe in and teach the Pre-Trib Rapture.
There are many who will try to interpret the scripture and allegorize everything, meaning that none of it is literal and it’s all wrapped in stories that tell truths from a roundabout method. There are others who believe that it’s all spiritual symbolism, nothing but types and shadows, and that few, if any, of the prophetic words in the Bible are meant to be taken at face value, but that truth is hidden behind a veil which we must break through in order to understand hidden spiritual meaning. This tends to give rise to the idea that only a select few “really spiritual people”, can understand what others cannot. These “teachers”, who tickle the ear, and claim to speak for God often draw huge crowds who don’t study for themselves but listen only to their “Great Teacher”!
But God spoke to the prophet in Habakkuk 2:2-3 and this is what He said.
And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Also, in 2 Peter 1:19-21 the Apostle tells us that, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The “prophecies” that Peter speaks of include the doctrines of the gospel along with the revelations of futuristic and prophetic events, and they are not just for any one man, or one group to know. They are open and understandable to any man who will apply himself to know them. God doesn’t hide his truth! He wants it out there for all men to know and learn, so we can all know and make our own salvation sure; so we can know God as much as we are willing to know Him; and so that everyone in His church can be informed and ready to meet him.
When we start hearing of anyone who claims to have a revelation that no one else has then we should be wary of what is taught and be certain that it lines up with the Word of God because a lot of people just want attention and recognition, and they are trying to build a big following that will appear to endorse their message and draw even more into their scheme. And it’s always centered on getting rich and famous and not winning souls or preaching righteousness, repentance and living in holiness before the Lord. Their message is often more like “Milk Toast” than the real “meat of the word”, designed to please the flesh and ease the guilt of the mind.
