The Song of the Satisfied Soul
Psalms 63
Intro:
The Writer and Occasion is stated in the Superscription
It Says “ A Psalm of David When he was in the Wilderness
of Judah
This Psalm, Just Like Chapter 62 probably belongs to the Time of Absolom’s Rebellion.
There are Several Reasons why this is thought to be when Absolom was rebelling
I. The Writer is a King vs.11
II. He is Away from Home and in a Weary Land vs.1
III. He Longs to be Back in the Sanctuary vs. 2
IV. Enemies Seek to kill Him vs. 9
V. He is Confident of their Overthrow vs. 9,10
VI. And he Himself Rejoices in God vs. 7
The Theme of this Psalm is Satisfaction
David with his loyal Followers have left Jerusalem by the Jericho Rd. which led through the Northern Oart of the Wilderness of Judah
This is the Same Wilderness where David Often Found Refuge from the Actions of Saul, But this Time He’s fleeing from his own Son
No Doubt his Heart was Heavy, No Doubt there were Many Obstacles Along the Way
But it’s in these times that the Grace of God Becomes Reality
I’m glad that The Grace of God Is Sufficient for Every Need
The Language of this Psalm Suggests that it was Written at Night Vs. 6 for Example
Under the Circumstance David Was not Likely to Sleep Restfully, and Yet his Soul Found Rest in Communion with God
David Did Not Stop Singing because he was in the Wilderness. But He Simply Adjusted his worship to fit the Situation.
Though there was a Desert all around DAVID SANG ON
Though the Enemy was hot on his trail DAVID SANG ON
The situation might have looked Hopeless But HE SANG ON
He was away from Home in a far country – BUT HE SANG ON
A SOUL THAT IS SATISFIED CAN SING NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCE ARE!!!
THE OLD SONG SAYS “IF YOU CAN SING WHEN IT SEEMS THERE IS NOTHING TO SING ABOUT- THEN I’LL KNOW THAT YOU KNOW MY SAVIOUR”
I’m Glad that No matter what Comes to a Christian--YOU CAN KEEP YOUR SONG
I’m glad in the Dry & Dusty Wilderness of Life – We can still have a Song
I Want to Look at four things in this Chapter and preach
“MY SOUL IS SATISFIED”
I. CRAVING OF FELLOWSHIP - vs. 1-2
a. Communion
David’s Communion with God was so Sweet that he Wasn’t going to let the Desert Get Him Down
HEY!!! Aren’t You glad that God can be just as real in the desert as he is on the Mountain top!!!
The God on the Mountain – IS STILL God in the Valley
AND BY THE WAY
Our Vision on the Mountains should be our Comfort in the
Valley
Did you know – When your on top of a mountain you can see where the Valley Ends
So When Your on the Mountain - Take out your Spiritual Video Recorder So you can remember that the Valley Will End
Get all you can on the Mountain and It will help you when you hit the Valley
Come to Church and load Your Wagon Cause the Ways gonna get Rough
Find Out What a Big God he is on the Mountain Top
And Remember it when you Get in the Valley
That’s Why I Like Recording Services
Cause The Devil can get you Down So Bad Sometimes and you
can go Plug in a Tape of a Holy Ghost Service
AND SAY IT MAY BE BAD NOW BUT I REMEMBER WHEN IT WASN’T THIS WAY I KNOW THAT GOD”S STILL GOD
OUR VISION ON THE MOUNTAIN SHOULD BE OUR COMFORT IN THE VALLEY
OUR VISIONS IN THE SANCTUARY SHOULD BRIGHTEN OUR VIEW IN THE SOLITUDE
THAT’S WHY I NEED THE HOUSE OF GOD
How Many times have we experienced a problem on
Monday that was preached about on Sunday
How Many times have we needed the strength we got on
Wednesday when the Difficulty came on Thursday
Thank God for the Good Times – THEY GIVE US STRENGTH FOR THE BAD
I was looking this morning at different people who met God in the Desert
On Many Occasions God Appeared to his children while they were in the Desert wilderness
HAGAR saw God in the Wilderness - Gen. 16:13
Moses “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ “ - Ex 3:1-4
Elijah - I Kings 19:4-18
And Others spent their Times in the Wilderness
But Here David finds out that God is just as real in the Wilderness as he was in Jerusalem!!!
Thank God I want to say – I’VE MET THE LORD IN THE
WILDERNESS
I’ve been thirsty and found him to be my water
