Summary: The obedient sheep is assured of the everlasting mercy and goodness of the good Shepherd. The disciples of Christ enjoys fresh mercy every morning.
TEXT: Psalms 23:6 (NLT)
"Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the lord forever."
Chosen for Mercy
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever" (Ps 23:6). It was not a matter for debate, David was quite sure that the goodness and mercy of God were his portion, all the days of his life. The obedient sheep is ever confident in the presence of the shepherd because he is assured of the mercy of the shepherd. Rom 9:15-16 says: "For God said to Moses, 'I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.' So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it." The sheep therefore obtains mercy, not because of his merits, but because of the undeserved favour of the shepherd. The sheep starts every morning on a clean slate of mercy: "The faithful love of the lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning (Lam 3:22-23). The mercy of God will never cease in your life and family. He will chose you for special favour in Jesus name.
Mercy for mercy
True disciples must show mercy to others if they want the goodness and mercy of God to follow them forever. If you are not merciful, you may not enjoy the mercy of God (Matt 5:7).
A man after God's heart
There is abundant mercy in the presence of God. David knew how to enter the court of God and he was favoured enormously by God. This is his secret: "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name" (Psalms 100:4). No wonder God declared David as a man after his heart (Acts 13:22).
Your praise and thanksgiving will reach the court of heaven and attract God's favour upon your life in Jesus name.
Fullness of Joy in God's presence
The obedient sheep is always in the pasture of the shepherd. The true disciple is always in the assembly of the righteous. David takes delight in worshipping God in his temple. He counted it as a thing of Joy. "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD" (Ps 122:1). Are among those who forsake the assembly of believers? Don't you know that in the presence of God there is fullness of joy and pleasures evermore? A true disciple here on earth will continue with the shepherd in the heavenly pasture for all eternity.
Separated for Eternal life
I conclude the series with Matthew 25:33-34, 41, "And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ...Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels."
The Good Shepherd is looking for lost sheep
The good news is that you can switch sides. You can cross over from the left side to the right side by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Why not do so now. The good shepherd is waiting to receive you. He is looking for lost sheep to bring into his fold. He will open the door for you to come in.
The good shepherd will visit your home; perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you in Jesus name.
PRAYER:
Father, let your goodness and mercy never cease from my life and family. Let them be fresh every morning in the mighty name of Jesus.
DECREE:
The goodness and mercy of God shall pursue me all the days of my life.
God bless you. Shalom.
