Exploring the importance of gates and gatekeepers in the Scriptures.

Introduction

Gates play a significant role in the Scriptures, and at every gate, there are gatekeepers. In the Bible, gates and gatekeepers are mentioned frequently. For instance, in 2 Chronicles 23:19, it is mentioned that gatekeepers were appointed at the gates of the house of the Lord to prevent anyone who was unclean from entering.

In ancient times, cities were protected by high, thick walls, and the gates served as the only entrances and exits into the city. They provided security and acted as a shield against enemies. The Bible speaks about gates in various contexts. Heaven has gates, as mentioned in Psalm 100:4, which says, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." Similarly, hell is described as having gates in Matthew 16:18, where Jesus says, "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." Here, the "gates of hell" refer to the authorities of hell that cannot prevail against God's church.

Types of Gates

So, what exactly are gates? Gates are openings that serve as access points. They determine who or what is allowed to enter or exit a particular place. Gates can confine or prevent things from coming in or going out. They represent power and authority and act as boundaries or borders. Gates can also serve as meeting places or altars. Additionally, gates can be seen as portals, connecting the natural and supernatural realms. In Genesis 28:12, Jacob dreams of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending on it, symbolizing a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.

There are different types of gates. Firstly, there are personal gates, which include our minds, bodies, dreams, and mouths. These are areas where the enemy seeks to gain access to dominate, deceive, and destroy. Secondly, there are family gates that need protection. We must guard against anything that threatens our families and lead them to Christ. Thirdly, there are church gates that need safeguarding. If the spiritual gates of a church are open, it can lead to strife, prayerlessness, and division. Back doors of the church must also be closed to prevent negative influences.

Community gates are another type that must be protected. If the enemy captures these gates, it can result in crimes, poverty, sickness, injustice, and violence within a town or city. Therefore, it is crucial to take steps to possess these gates and bring about positive change. Lastly, there are national gates that can have a significant impact on a nation's well-being. If certain gates remain closed, it can lead to problems such as famine and sickness. Opening these gates requires dealing with the enemies that hinder progress.

The Role of Gatekeepers

At every gate, there are gatekeepers who monitor and control access. Gatekeepers play a vital role in the security and prosperity of a home, city, or nation. They need to have spiritual discernment to recognize danger and take prompt action. Gatekeepers are like watchmen on the walls, responsible for protecting the people and defending the truth of the Gospel. They guide and teach others, intercede through prayer, and guard God's secrets. Gatekeepers hold the keys to open or close gates, and they keep watch for the Lord's return. They are protectors and defenders.

To be a gatekeeper, certain qualifications are necessary. One must have a personal relationship with God and be clean and trustworthy. Being alert, strong, courageous, and wise is essential. Gatekeepers must be disciplined, prayerful, and obedient to God's Word. They should be readers and doers of the Bible, ready to wait in God's presence and sacrifice their time for gatekeeping. Praise and worship should be a regular part of their lives. Gatekeepers must also be ready to intercede for individuals, families, churches, cities, and nations.

Conclusion

In conclusion, gatekeepers play a crucial role in protecting and guiding others. They are watchmen on the walls, responsible for monitoring access points and discerning danger. Gatekeepers defend the truth of the Gospel, guide others on the right path, intercede through prayer, guard God's secrets, and hold the keys to open or close gates. To be a gatekeeper, one must have a personal relationship with God, be trustworthy, alert, strong, courageous, wise, disciplined, prayerful, obedient, and ready to wait in God's presence. Gatekeepers have an important role in securing the well-being of their families, churches, cities, and nations.
