Matt 26 v.57 & 58 v. 69 - 75 & John Ch 21 v 1 -19 The Restoration Of Peter 1. The Reality of Peter’s Denial - Peter Was Saved A. Peter's Conversion - Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it (catch of fish), he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. His Revelation Of The Lord v.8 When Simon Peter saw it His Recognition Of The Lord v.8 he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord His Reconciliation With The Lord v.9 For he was astonished at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: His Recruitment By The Lord v.10 And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men His Renouncement For The Lord 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. B. Peter's Confession - Matt. 16:16 - And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. He Confessed Christ's Supremecy, His Sovereignty, & His Sufficiency C. Peter's Conclusion - John 6:68 - Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. In this passage, Peter took all he knew about Jesus and said that Jesus alone was the Way to God, the Truth from God and the Life of God. Peter knew that everything began and ended in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. D. Peter's Consecration - Matt. 10:2 - Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 2. The Reason for Peter’s Denial it was through :- A. Heedlessness 1. He Rebuked Christ's Words - Matt. 16:21. From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 2. He Resented Christ's Words Matt. 26:33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 3. He Rejected Christ's Words - Matt. 26:34-35 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. B. Carelessness In His 1. Work He Fell Asleep - Matt. 26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 2. Walk He Followed Afar Off - Matt. 26:58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. 3. Worship He Fellowshipped Around The Wrong Fire - Matt. 26:69-74 C. Prayerlessness 1. He Forsook the Place Of Prayer v. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 2. He Forsook His Personal Saviour - v. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. 3. He Forsook the Place Of Service - John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. 3. The Rigour of Peter’s Denial v. 69 ¶ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. (1) It was a Personal Denial - "I" know not - "he denied"

(2) It was a Public Denial - i.e. "before them all"
