Preach Christmas week

Sermons

Summary: The pecking order, as we know it, is going to change. There is going to be a God factor in the church world that we have never seen before. God, who looks at the heart, is going to jump some of you over others because you are keeping His commandments.

The Promotion

Psalm 75:1-10

1 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it.

4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

8 For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

I have entitled this today: “The Promotion”

We, as a people of God, need to give thanks and understand that God is near.

In verse one it says that your name is near thy wondrous works declare.

Verse two says: When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

This speaks of the second coming, when the Lord will set up His government, which will cover the entirety of the whole earth.

Psalm 75:3

3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

This predicts the termination in confusion and guilt of mans’ government, as well as the firm establishment of the Messiah’s rule.

The latter portion of this verse speaks of all creations that are upheld by God through Christ.

Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Psalm 75: 4

4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

Eastern women once wore a protruding ornament on the forehead called a horn. As sons were born the horn was raised.

The expression “to lift up the horn” means to become proud, it addresses itself to all who would be lifted up in pride.

Verse five says: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

The coming Anti-Christ will lift himself up greatly.

2 Thesalonians 2:3-4

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Look at Psalm 75:6

6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

The Antichrist will claim great things, when in actuality, he will not be able to do anything that is lasting.

In this verse notice that “North” is not mentioned, proclaiming the fact that promotion comes from the North which has to do with where Heaven and the Throne of God are.

Psalm 75:7

7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

Men, even in the modern church, look to other men for promotions; they forget that God is the judge.

God is saying that He is the one who will lift up the horn, not man, if man does such it will only breed pride.

If God does it will breed humanity.

In the strict interpretation of this verse it means that the Lord will “put down” the antichrist and “set up” the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dream 8-6-09

I dreamed that I was a crew person at Bob Evans. The owner walked up to me and he promoted me to supervisor. He overlooked people who were higher in the organization and promoted someone new.

Interpretation

Bob Evans is not McDonalds, a better quality of food.

Crew person-someone who is at the beginning stages where they work.

Owner represents God, He owns everything.

Promoted me to supervisor-someone who oversees what and how things are done.

Makes sure things are run right.

Sometimes God overlooks people that we think He will use and use people who are willing to be used.
