The Promise of His Presence

Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"— which means, "God with us."

I. HIS PRESENCE IS PROMISED

John 14:20 & 23 On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 23. . "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

II. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS PEACE

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Acts 18:9 & 10 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I AM with you, and no-one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city."

III. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS PROSPERITY

Genesis 39:2-5 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favour in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

Genesis 39:21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warder.

IV. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS PROMOTION

Joshua 3:7 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so that they may know that I AM with you as I was with Moses.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I AM your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

V. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS POWER

Mark 16:20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Isaiah 8:9 & 10 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! 10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

VI. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS PROTECTION

Genesis 28:15 I AM with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

2 Timothy 4:17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.

VII. HIS PRESENCE BRINGS RESTORATION

Isaiah 43:5 Do not be afraid, for I AM with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.

Jeremiah 15:20 I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I AM with you to rescue and save you," declares the LORD.

VIII. HIS PRESENCE IS PERMANENT

Ezekiel 48:35 "And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE." [‘Jehovah Shammah’ – one of the Divine Titles of Jehovah]

An Athenian orator writing in the second century to the Emperor Hadrian said; “These Christians who know and trust their God are prepared for anything that comes their way for they believe that no matter what happens to them in the future their God will always be there”. [EDWJ 17.12.00]

Matthew 28:20 And surely I AM with you always, to the very end of the age."

IX. HIS PRESENCE IS ASSURED BY PAST FULFILMENT

Exodus 3:12 And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain."

Joshua 1:5 No-one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
