Message Point: God is ready and waiting for His wayward children to return to Him.
Focus Passage: Luke 15:11-32
Supplemental Passage: See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Introduction: prod•i•gal: A person who spends money in a recklessly extravagant way.
I. The Wasteful Son
a. The younger son wanted to have what was “owed” to him
b. He wanted to have fun
c. He spent all his money and realized that he would be better off as his father’s servant
d. He didn’t understand his father’s love
II. The Responsible Son
a. The older son wanted to please his father
b. The older son was indignant that his brother wasted his inheritance
c. The older son was indignant that his father welcomed his brother home with a party
d. He didn’t understand his father’s love
III. The Loving Father
a. The father knew that the younger son would get into trouble
b. The father worried that he might not see his son again
c. The father waited patiently for the son and welcomed him with opened arms and a party
d. The father’s love for both the sons exceeded the understanding of the sons.
Invitation: God is extravagant when it comes to love, grace and mercy.
