Summary: The Problem of Procrastination

Acts 24:10-27 The Problem of Procrastination

Some will not be saved because

of Rebellion - Luke 19:14 We will not have this man to reign over us.

of Religion - John 3:7 Ye must be born again

of Reluctance - They would be saved, but not today.

1. The Preaching that Convicted him -

25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

i. The Righteousness Revealed - 25 as he reasoned of righteousness,

It's Standard - absolute righteousness -

Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

It's Source - 2 Cors 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

It's Secret - Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness

ii. The Restraint Revealed - 25 And temperance - “self-control”

Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: Felix was a sensual man.

He stole Drusilla a daughter of King Herod Agrippa from her husband

26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him:

iii. The Reason Revealed - 25 And judgment to come -

Eccl 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

2. The Problems that Confronted him -

25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled,

when the Holy Spirit convicts him, the devil confronts him.

i. Worldliness - In Caesarea,

in a place - of prominence, of power, of position, and of praise.

ii. Wantonness - Drusilla

iii. Wastefulness - 25 Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

3. The Presumption that Condemned him -

27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound. -

He Presumed that:-

i. Convenience will Come -

Death may Come - Prov 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth - Some die by disease, some by disaster, some by decay, and some by design, but they die.

1 Chron 29:15 …our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding” - Job 7:6 My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle

Psalm 39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth…”

Psalm 102:3 For my days are consumed like smoke…”

Psalm 102:11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass”

Jesus may Come - Matt 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come ...44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh

ii. Conviction will Continue

Heb 3:7 To day if ye will hear his voice 8 Harden not your hearts

Three times in Romans 1:26 you read where “…God gave them up…”

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found,

iii. Conflicts will Cease -

25 when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee - 2 Cors 6:2 Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation

Tomorrow you will have more sin to repent of, less time to repent in,

and a harder heart to repent with. - George Truett “I sat there, and watched him die saying, "Not tonight, George, tomorrow."

The Holy Ghost says today, the Word of God says today,

experience says today, the preacher says today, Jesus says today.
