JOHN 16:15
His primary ministry (earthly work) can be refined to one word that expands to many different realms and encompasses many different facets and that word is - empowerment for the purpose of Glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ 16:14
1. HE COMFORTS 16:7 (the Christian)
3875: parakletos \par?ak’?lay?tos\: AV ? comforter 4, advocate 1; 5
1) summoned, called to one’s side, esp. called to one’s aid
1a) one who pleads another’s cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an advocate
1b) one who pleads another’s cause with one, an intercessor
1c) in the widest sense, a helper, succourer, aider, assistant 1c1) of the Holy Spirit destined to take the place of Christ with the apostles (after his ascension to the Father), to lead them to a deeper knowledge of the gospel truth, and give them divine strength needed to enable them to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine kingdom
1. His Presence (He is with us always)
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
2. His Prayers (advocate)
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.
3. His Provisions (whatever we need)
2. HE CONVICTS 16:8-11 (the lost)
1. Sin - the essence of condemning sin (notice he didn’t say sins) - unbelief
SEE Romans 5:12-21 (Adam and Eve chose not to belief God)
Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
2. Righteousness - the evidence of completed righteousness - acceptance
Romans 10:3-4 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
3. Judgment - the extent of coming judgment - all
1 Peter 4:5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
3. HE COMMUNICATES 16:12-15 (the Christian for the sake of the lost and the Glory of God)
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
I Corinthians 2:9-13
1. Historical - “bring all things to your remembrance” 14:26 Old and New Testament for us and Old Testament for them
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
2. Doctrinal - interpretation of the historical facts “teach you all things” 14:26 and 16:14
3. Prophetic - “show you things to come” 16:13
