JAMES 1:12-16 "THE PRICE OF SIN"

INTRO: No one realizes the high price of sin until they have to pay for it. I want us today to look at vs.15 and really grasp the meaning! When man sins, he will pay for it. God is long-suffering, but there comes a time when God says, "That’s enough, you must pay up on your account."

* Lets look at the meaning of vs.15 and note with me three words in this vs. that everyone, saved

or lost, needs to know the meaning thereof.

(A) The first word is "LUST." Webster says - a strong desire to possess or enjoy;

* overmastering desire. The Greek word is "EPITHUMIA" - longing for what is forbidden.

(B) The second word is "CONCEIVED." It means - to think of, imagine or understand; to

form in the mind. The Greek word is "SULLAMBANO" - To clasp, seize, capture, take.

(C) The third word is "DEATH." Webster says - the ending of life. The Greek word is

"THANATOS" - to die; be dead.

(D) There are three kinds of death in the bible. (1) PHYSICAL - Jms.2:26 "For as the body...."

(2) SPIRITUAL - Isa.59:2 "But your iniquities have......." Adam and Eve in the Garden.......

(3) ETERNAL - Rev.2:11 "He that hath an ear....He that overcometh shall not be hurt..."

Rev.20:14 "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."

(E) In this message I want by all means to call your attention to the fact that sin does deceive and

carries a high price. Every Christian should hate sin - nailed Christ to the cross.

(1) THE PRICE OF SIN IS EXCITING AND IT TAKES YOU FARTHER THAN YOU

WANT TO GO! Heb.11:25 "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of.........."

(A) Please note the duration - "a little season."

(B) The prodigal son - Lk.15:11-13 "And he said, a certain man had two........"

(C) David - Acts 13:22 "a man after God’s own heart." He fell into sin because of it’s exciting

power. Turn to 2 Sam.11:1-4. David lusted, God did not tempt him!

(D) In Gen.39, Joseph ran out of his coat. (Potiphar’s wife)

(E) Sin took David farther than he wanted to go. He sacrificed a close relationship with God

for a one night stand with a woman! Is sin worth it, my friend? Exciting? YES!

(2) THE PRICE OF SIN IS ENTICING, AND KEEPS YOU LONGER THAN YOU WANT

TO STAY! It always unveils the materialistic side of life.

(A) It always works slowly; little by little; but surely. It all adds up in the end. ISA.30:1 "Woe to

the rebellious children saith the Lord, that take council, but not of me and that cover with

a covering, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin."

(B) The prodigal son - Lk.15:14-15 " And when he had spent all, there arose a .............."

* "He began to be in want." * Be destitute; lack; suffer need; be in want; be the worse.

(C) David - 2 Sam.11:5-17 Idle mind; lust; (drunkard-one drink; dope addict-one pill)

A robber-one break in. Sin kept David longer than he wanted to stay.(vs.5) "I’m pregnant."

(D) He had no idea that one affair would bring so much disaster. He kept sinning by adding sin

to sin, and it all started when he lusted.

(E) He kept getting deeper and deeper, trying to cover up what he did to start with!

(F) YES! Sin will keep you longer that you want to stay!!!!!!!

(3) THE PRICE OF SIN IS EMPTY AND COST YOU MORE THAN YOU

WANT TO PAY!

(A) The prodigal son. Lk.15:16 "And he would fain......." (the slop looked good to him)

(B) Cost him his home, friends, everything. He would have eaten slop with the hogs, but no man

gave to him.

(C) David - cost him his son; reputation. 2 Sam.11:27 "...displeased the Lord......."

(D) 2 Sam.12:1-24 elaborate on parable Preacher Nathan told. (note verse 10) sword never

depart...

(E) 2 Sam. 12:14 - Sin cost David more than he wanted to pay! ("child will die" God said.)

(F) The sword never departed from David’s house! He reaped his sin for the rest of his life!

(G) David’s son, Amnon raped his sister, Tamar. David remembered "the sword will never......"

(H) Absolom hated his brother for raping his sister and had him killed - David remembered -

"the sword will never depart...."

(I) Then Absolom stole the hearts of the people to undermine his father David to take his throne;

David remembered, "the sword will never depart from........."

(J) Later, Absolom was killed - David remembered, "the sword will never depart from........"

(K) YES; It cost him more than he wanted to pay! If he knew it was gonna cost him so much,
