Summary: As the life of the flesh is in the blood, even so the life of the Gospel is in the blood. We must not leave the message of the blood out of the Gospel we preach.

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

"For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul." Leviticus 17:11

I. Only the blood of Jesus has the power to make atonement for our souls.

Webster defines "atonement" perfectly: "the reconciliation of God and man through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ."

Notice in Leviticus 17:11 the phrase: "I HAVE GIVEN it to you upon the altar..." Written more than fourteen hundred years before Christ was born in Bethlehem, this scripture can only be understood in the light of Revelation 13:8 which speaks of our Lord Jesus as "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."

II. Only the blood of Jesus has the power to redeem us.

Again, Webster provides an accurate definition: redeem: "to buy back".

"For Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation." Revelation 5:9.

"Feed the church of God which He hath purchased with His own blood." Acts 20:28.

Therefore, "we have been bought with a price." I Corinthians 7:23

III. Only the blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse us from sin.

"…and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin." I John 1:7.

IV. Only the blood of Jesus has the power to justify us.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." Romans 5:8-9.

V. Only the blood of Jesus has the power to sanctify our souls.

"Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate." Hebrews 13:12.

VI. Only the blood of Jesus can provide the soul perfect peace.

"And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things to Himself…" Colossians 1:20.
