2. Nor has God changed the punishment or the payment for sin.

a. It is still the same. Death, James 1:15

b. Numbers 32:23, is still in effect.

3. In Genesis 34:1-31, tells the story of a person who got involved in sin and did not realize the power and the cost of it.

4. It all started in verse 1, Dinah went out to see the daughters of the land.

a. It seemed like an innocent enough thing to do.

b. Maybe out of curiosity, to go out and see the daughters of the land.

c. There is a danger in vain curiosity. There is a danger in wanting to see the world, sowing your wild oats.

1) Dinah was curious to see and know the ways and customs of the surrounding people.

2) That led to a careless begging that she should have never gotten into.

3) She lost her testimony, character, and everything else. All because she was curious to go and see.

5. I want you to notice three things about sin in Diana's life. It all started in verse one when she wanted to go out and see.

I. The Power of Sin Will Take You Farther Than You Want to Go

1. Dinah had no plan to fall into sin.

a. She was just curious.

b. She did not plan to defile her body.

c. She did not plan to bring disgrace upon her father and mother.

d. It was not in her heart and mind it caused her brothers to suffer.

e. She had no knowledge that they would become murderers all because of her.

f. Sin will definitely take you farther than you want to go.

g. It is the history of sin and has been proven by mankind. One sin leads to another. Sin is like a fire. It spreads, destroys, and kills.

2. Sin will take you farther than you want to go.

a. It did with Adam and Eve.

1) Satan says, “God’s word is not true. You won’t die.”

2) Same lie he is telling today.

3) That preacher does not know what he is talking about.

4) You won’t have to pay for your sin.

b. You know the result. Adam and Eve’s sin took them farther than they wanted to go.

3. If you let sin, it will keep you from trusting Christ and you will end up on Hell. John 3:19

II. The Power of Sin Will Cost You More Than You Want to Pay

1. Dinah did not intend to pay with Her virginity. She was just curios. Galatians 6:7-8

2. Samson began to play with sin and lost his convictions about separation.

a. He began to play with an ungodly woman.

b. He forgot the vows he made to God.

c. It cost him more than he wanted to pay.

1) His strength

2) His sight

3) His life

3. Ask the prodigal son in Luke.

a. He went into a far country.

b. Wasted his substance on riotous living.

c. He wound up in the hog pen.

4. Ask Achan, he paid for his sin with the lives of his wife and children.

5. The final payment for a person who does not know Jesus is an eternity in Hell. Revelation 20:15

III. The Power of Sin Will Keep You Longer Than You Want to Stay

1. Dinah did not come home. She just wanted to see the world.

2. She does not get out of the house until her brothers come and kill the men of the city and rescue her.

3. She had to live with the shame of that thing for the rest of her life.

4. Sin does not go away, it stays.

5. David never intended for his sin to stay as long as it did. 2 Samuel 12:1-10

a. David murdered, his baby died, his sons died.

b. David committed adultery; son committed adultery with David’s daughter.

c. Absalom rebels, tries to overthrow the kingdom.

d. David prays. 2 Samuel 18:33, he should have lived for him, dying will take care of itself.

6. How long will your sin stay? You will remember it throughout eternity. Lue 16.

7. The only hope for sin and eternity is Jesus Christ.

a. As a Christian you need Jesus.3

b. As a sinner a lost person you need Jesus.

c. 1 John 1:9

8. There is a pay day someday. Yes, sin is powerful. It will take you farther than you want to go, cost you more than you want to pay and will keep you longer than you want to stay.

9. How to defeat it?

10. Don’t go out into the world.
