Summary: Christ has the power to significantly change your life.

The Power of Christ

Isaiah 61:1-3

Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (Matthew 28:18)

For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. (2 Corinthians 13:4)

Here in Isaiah 61 we see a prophecy of the coming Messiah.

It speaks of the power that Christ has to offer us hope.

His Power was the power of the Spirit of God.

-Jesus and the Holy Spirit are part of the holy trinity.

-The Spirit of God was His source of power.

Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the

Lord, and in the power of his might.

I. He has the power to heal the broken hearted. Vs 1

A.Broken by sin.

B.Broken by failed relationships.

C.Broken by life’s disappointments.

D.Jesus is the great healer of the brokenhearted.

II. He has power to set us free.

A. We are the in bondage to sin.

B.Jesus can set us free.

-John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth

shall make you free.

-John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

C.In our sin we are in bondage to the world, to sin and to Satan.

-Jesus can break that bondage and set us free.

III. He has power to judge sin.

A. He is holy

B. His judgment will come against all sin.

C. He has a right and He has the power to cast judgment on all the sin of the world.

-It’s called the Acceptable year of the Lord.

-Either you will be accepted into the kingdom of God.

-Or His wrath will be poured out on your sin.

-John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath

everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son

shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on

him.

IV. He has power to comfort all that mourn.

A. mourn over their own sin.

B. realize the reality of their sin.

C.Understand the consequence of their sin.

-Grasp the personal state of sin.

-Like when Isaiah saw the Lord (Isaiah 6)

D. God sent His son to take away the not only the

consequences of our sin, but also the guilt of our sin.

E. Jesus took it all upon Himself.

V. He has to power to change our lives.

A.beauty for ashes…

B.oil of joy for mourning

C.The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

-He changes everything.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ ,

he is a new creature: old things are passed away;

behold, all things are become new.

In the end the Lord is glorified. Vs 3c
