Summary: The Patriarchs The Mission of God in the Abrahamic Covenant Genesis 17-18:15 David Taylor May 1, 2016

This is confirmed by God promising the land of Canaan to his offspring. Canaan is a piece of land thirty miles by one hundred miles located between two great empires, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Canaan was the only functional route through the desert so it was the center of travel, trade, and communication. It was like the spine for the nervous system. God wanted his people to dwell there so that the nations around Israel would see God’s people living in covenant relationship to God, a light to the nations, Like a billboard on a highway. He started it all by choosing to work through one man, Abraham, to reverse the curse of sin. Then he chose to work through the perfect man, his son Jesus Christ, who covenanted with us, with the New Covenant by the spilling of his blood and the breaking of his body on our behalf. In dying on our behalf, he willingly took the curse of the covenant for us and made a way for us to becomes offspring of Abraham, children of God.
